having only bought our property in (porches) in the last six months it was completly emptied off all electrical goods including plasma t.v. sound system etc. i presume that this is a rare event can anyone advise is there any way of securing these type of items to protect against theft? the property is a bit remote for an alarm to be effective or can you be connected to the police as in the U.K.? any help or advise would be appreciated

suggest you look back to thread..the best thiefs in the world....there is no system here as far as i know to link to police..to security firms yes..but at a price and will they arrive before the thiefs have gone?????''

best to fit burglar bars..close all shutters...buy safe....apart from that unless you live here and can get a dog nothing much else can be done.

sorry for you loss...those that promote the holiday industry here never like to mention the crime

also forgot to say..lock all internal doors when you leave..also put a strip of wood in any sliding patio or widows so they cant be opened....locking internal doors means hopefully if someone gets in they can only go as far as one room..as far as alarms are concerned..i have heard them ringing away.....but needless to say no one pays any attention..if you can avoid the temptation dont put too high value items in your villa unless you are living here all the time.

anyway thats my advice for better or worse.

its an every day event now on the Algarve,all you can do is as suggested,
Even with good door security they just break the door frame and get in,so make sure the door frame is as secure as possible,fit window and door grills with hardend steel close fiiting locks,stand outside when the villa is all locked up and see if you could get in if you lost your keys?,if you can so can THEY.

Maybe think twice before locking internal doors,once their in excitment takes over and if the place is any way isolated their not going to care about a bit of noise ,so maybe the less damage the better.
On the same thread does any body reckon theres an opening for a cheap villa security company,just working the cvo area

there is a firm in lagoa called prosecom..english firm with from i!remember english prices...

Prosecom do have system linked to the local GNR but I think it may only be for commercial premises. GNR response time is not that great anyway once you get out in the country a bit.

I do believe that thieves go for the soft touch so good burglar bars, locks and alarm system does deter.

Have e-mailed Prosecom for info a week ago still no response i hope they respond to breakins a little quicker!!!

exactly...shows in reality how useless security firms are...alarm bells ring all the time and no one comes....just lock up the villa and see if a friend or neighbour will look out for you..they will be just as effective..believe me

do you have the right number? We have other experiences with them. Our alarm from Prosecom works ok and the service is as good. No complains from us.

We have good experience with Prosecom and always set the alarm off deliberately at least twice a year to see if they are still there? They respond every time.

We are in Cvo though and not out in the country. Burglar bars and good shutters are essential deterents.
