I do not doubt that if the cars had been removed things tidied up it would have improved the " OLD " square but CVO has to compete for business with the other resorts in the ALgarve ALL of whom are in the middle of major improvements and pedestrianastion projects.
CVO is already suffering from reduced tourist levels compared with other resorts it needs this improvements , I think that next year we will all be singing the praises of the NEW SQUARE and traffic systems

Im inclined to agree with you Blue...I preferred the old square, it had a cosier look. But Im living in hopes that some trees and benches strategically placed will give it a warmer and more welcoming look..and hopefully there wil be some flowers tubs :)

Im off outside now..its a glorious day here, warm, sunny not a cloud in the sky, so Im going to 'potter'(the bees are buzzing in the Rosemary)...and plant up the lobelia Ive grown and give my hanging baskets/pots a good water!
Tudo de bom

Blimey that was quick! Just a couple of weeks ago there was just the bare rock face and no sign of building work for the toilets.

When I started the thread ' will the square be sorted out by september?' Michael Crane asked despairingly ' is there any need for yet another discussion about the square?' Well what's this I see? Crane asking yet another question about the wretched square! You were right Michael though, I shouldn't have started another thread about a subject that had been done to death and that was proved in the 213 replies I got. Sorry old chap.

P.S. It would've been even more than that if people hadn't started talking about some meal they had in Guildford or somewhere.

I've just shown a friend a picture of the square from Algarve webcam at 9.50am today. I said "this is where we go on holiday" "Oh" she said. Have a look!

Very good piccies. The 'in' road looks very narrow. Is it designed solely for the little train?

Yes, thanks, I was missing my pic's fix. The out road still looks a mess, it's surprising some of the shops are managing to function. We thought we were coming over in a weeks time to a completed project! Starting to relate to the earlier thread "will it be complete by September".

My neighbour got back from Carvoeiro yesterday and said she had to thank me twice. Firstly because I mowed her lawn and secondly for recommending Alvor. She said she thought Carvoeiro was a real mess and they hardly bothered going down. :(

Actually we've been in Carvoeiro all week and yes there is a lot of work going on, but we saw progress being made and all concerned are aware of the problem and are trying to get as much done as possible before they have a break for the height of the season. We actually stay in the village and support the local businesses who are having a difficult enough time. We had super meals, drinks, met up with lots of friends and had a great time! To hear all the whingers you'd think the work was being done just to inconvenience British holidaymakers!

I agree, Gary and I have found it to be slightly inconvenient, on the corner of Smilers and the Hemmingway bar stretch in particular but the rest of the town is fine, bars are open on the front, restaurant hill is fine . Noticed that the work is continuing today too, so they are all eager to get this done. Weather very hot and loving it..... :D

The point is that you are CVOphiles and will support the place. You can look beyond the mess and disruption and see what you will be getting on your next trip. First timers will possibly think twice, not because they are whinging Brits but because they associate the place with a less than brilliant holiday and there are plenty of other places to go. That's the shame of it.

Maybe the doom and gloom merchants are doing the village a favour - the feedback I've had from visitors so far this year, is that after reading the information on this website they were expecting complete chaos and approached their holidays with a degree of trepidation, but in fact it was better than they thought!

There will always be those with their glasses half empty!

Totally disagree with you Lazerblazer! We rent our apartment in Carvoeiro to holidaymakers and the comments we have had from clients is all very positive and not all have been 'CVOphiles' some are first time visitors and have made the most of what the area has to offer. Most appreciate that work has to be done sometime and two recent visitors have already booked another holiday. BTW We actually live here- not 'another trip'
