Traveling to Carvoeiro: public transportation

Hello everyone,

I have never visited Portugal before although I hear wonderful things bout it. My family and I will be visiting Portugal in mid June. We plan to stay in Lisbon for 2 nights before coming to Carvoeiro for 7 days. I will not be driving in Portugal.

My questions are:

1a. How do we get to Carvoeiro from Lisbon? The nearest train station seem to quite far off, and taxis from station to Carvoeiro (Tivoli) might be very expensive.

1b. If we travel by train, where do we get on board in Lisbon, and what would our destination town/city be? Do we ned to book tickets in advance?

2a. Are buses a viable option? If so which bus station in Lisbon do we get on, and where do we get off?
(The Rede expressos website has information in Portuguese only)

2b. Do we have to book bus tickets in advance, or should we buy them in Lisbon?

As we are quite unfamiliar with Portugal, any help is welcome.

The easiest way to CVO is by coach,it goes to Lagoa which is a short cab ride away,the nearest direct train goes to Tunes,then its a 35/40 euro fare to CVO,the station in lisbon is Entrecampos.

There is an extensive public bus system in Portugal, the express bus to Lisbon stops at Lagoa.

If traveling by rail ( Oriente station in Lisbon is the main hub ) I would get the train to either Tunes of Ferrerais ( Albufeira ) and then taxi from there but I would think that the express bus would be cheaper, certainly getting a taxi from Lagoa into CVO would be a lot less than the rail staions which are miles away.

Is there a similiar scheme for an express bus to CVO from Faro airport and return?
If so does anyone know the cost per person and is it cheaper for return bus ticket or does it have to be costed one way only?

Same applies for the express bus service from Lisbon to and fro to CVO, Costs etc .

Just looking at it as an alternative, if either one of us came out on our own and a way of saving any money.

hi, there is a bus that can pick you up at faro and take you to cvo, its called shuttle direct, i found it by typing in transfers from faro to cvo on any search engine. you can also go to trip adviser and they have a link for coach transfers to cvo. hope this helps.

Coach: If we travel by coach, I get off at Lagoa.
(i) Where (i.e. which bus station) do I get aboard the coach in Lisbon?
(ii) Is the express bus the same as Rede Expressos?
(iii) Do I need to buy tickets online/mail in advance, or can I purchase bus tickets ton the same day of travel?
