Why would anyone want to cancel their holiday to cvo just because they are doing up the square? I really don't understand it, the place will be so much better when it is all finished, it doesn't stop you using the main part of the square or the beach. There can't be that much noise and as has been said, the hotel you are staying at is quite some way up the hill from the square.

I can understand the problem if you have a building site next door to your hotel, noise at night, dust etc, these is more of a problem for the businesses in and around the square, we should all be supporting them not saying you are going to cancel.

when you recieve a letter from your travel agent (thomas cook) warning you to say that there are major redevelopments in the resort, & that it may affect your stay in carvoeiro, & they offer to refund you, i think i have every right to ask questions & consider changing my holiday!!!! we can afford only one holiday this year & this is nothing personal against carvoeiro as i have been THREE times in the last three years & we love it, but if the building work was going to spoil our enjoyment then i would not feel guilty for canceling & coming back in a year or two when the work was complete. i know businesses are struggling but its not just carvoeiro, its global & as a customer i have the right to choose where i spend my one week in the year to relax with my family!

Yes I can understand your point and appreciate your concerns but if you look at the web-cams available you will see that the square isn't really as bad as has been made out, that is the point of forums like this to give help and advice, the main gripe with most people is how they are going to drive around it, really is that the most important thing about a holiday? you can get to the beach and if you have to walk a little further then it is good for your body. It is the businesses who seem to feel most threatened by the work going on.
I am very lucky in being able to pop out at the end of this month to the area (we don't actually have a place in cvo) and will have a good look at what is going on and the progress and will take photos and report back (what a lot of 'and' )

At the risk of putting words into Lesley Jean's mouth, she was just giving the counter argument that these particular roadworks are extremely unlikely to affect your holiday at that hotel and furthermore, she was saying that if your holiday at that hotel was ruined by the roadworks, then e-richard would refund the total cost of your holiday directly to you.

Please don't feel the need to cancel, enjoy your holiday.

Don't blame you at all for checking.

Like you say, when it's your main holiday, you've been saving all year, you really do not want anything to spoil things.

You have every right to ask questions. I'm sure all will be OK. We arrive in September and cannot wait, but if things are still disruptive then i will not be pleased!!

I've just come back from a week in CVO. Our apartment was at the bottom of the In Road, right above the Farmacia, with the terrace overlooking the square. The works did not disturb us at all but then most of the work was going on in the Out road, the other side of Matabixo.
The works in the square and the road didn't disrupt or spoil our holiday at all. I think, when finished, the town will have a greater appeal for tourist round about the beach and square area, although it will be difficult getting parked nearby. The only adverse comment I will make is that I can see it's going to be a full time job for the council workman replacing the grey granite blocks edging the In/Out road and in the square. In the space of two days I saw three that had been uprooted.
Can't wait for next years week in heaven. Where else can you go into a chicken take away (The Funky Chicken), order a Frango Piri Piri and get given a glass of port while you wait!!

The roads are a bit messy at the moment, but im sure when it is all done it will look great, hopefully cutting down the amount of cars. Poeple on foot go in the local business and bars.

I have just returned from a month at Rocha Brava and every time I went down to the village it got better
and better from the point of view of walking about, I am slightly disabled and fall very easily on uneven
surfaces so the pavements on the out road used to be a nightmare for me, now it is heaven I can walk
without looking down all the time. Well done Carvoeiro it looks great.

This morning I spent a good 5 minutes in a line of cars waiting for the bus driver to make the turn in to the out road past Smilers.

It has also become very dangerous for pedestrians who wander on to the square following the design of the pavement which leads them directly heading into traffic.

Oh, and the inverted traffic down the road past the ice cream shop is a real doosey! Before cars went uphill (slower) and could see if someone was about to step out of the shop on to the road. Now they are coming downhill (faster and harder to break) and only see people exiting the shop when they are on the tarmac!

At this point I am convinced, that the architect who designed this project has not left his study in the last 20 years!
Square concrete pollards? No seating in the square? Mixing pedestrian walkways with the main ingress road? Completely ignoring the turning circles of anything larger than a Ford Ka?

All people wanted were wider sidewalks and now they get to play chicken with drivers that are even more frustrated because there are less places to park.

All around, a job well done.

Don,t blame the pedestrians but the drivers some of who think that the new system is a training circuit for monaco.

Pedestrians walk very slowly through the square in large groups and then maybe these idiot drivers will get the message.
( not all Portuguese by any means ).
There is one spanish car with dents in its boot lid from being hammered by me when it tried to reverse into us at speed looking for a parking space.

Aside from said spaniard it may have slipped your mind that there are a vast number of people WORKING in Carvoeiro who have to get through town somehow and are now FORCED to drive through the square because the Monte Dourado passage has been reversed.
Chances are these workers are also somehow involved in making your holiday go off without a hitch, so be nice and get out of the effin way if you want your bagels delivered/pool cleaned/toilet uncloged/tv working.

I am next to the Mirachor hotel. How do I get to the Villa Nova please? I used to drive into town go up the hill by Monte Carvoeiro and then drive until I saw the Villa Nova sign. I have absolutely no idea how to get there now!
