Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
I have noticed that the majority of postings are now in Non CVO forums, Chit Chat, jokes, word Games etc.
Have those of us who live, frequent stayers, etc run out of things to say about the area.
Given how important it is that we help to attract more holiday makers to the region I would hope that we had more to say.
Such As .
BEACHES.
On more than one occasion we have come across families with small children in tow walkng past Monte Carvoeiro looking for the beach.
When shown the way not only are they surprised at how far from most accomodation the beaches can be but also that they are not exactly small child friendly.
We met a young dutch family earlier this week having shown them the way to the town beach and listened to their comments we suggested that they go to ferragudo .
A few days later we cam across them again on the beach at ferragudo
They and the children loved it, soft sand, shallow water, small waves, childrens playground, parking and a range of places for eat and drink.
Where are there other easily accessable " family friendly " beaches in the area.

You tell us, you obviously know the area. When you do I'll pop 'em into FAQ.EMM wrote:...Where are there other easily accessable " family friendly " beaches in the area.
Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
I know about one or two but to be honest Micheal i do not think that casual visitors will look at FAQS.
Another popular forum has a section devoted to beaches with up to date info on location state of beach etc etc.

The FAQ is a great resource for those people who use the Forum.
Many (dare I say most?) visitors to CVO do not use forums, but on the main CVO site (and from here on the forum) just see the menu at the top of the page, "info > beaches" and hey presto - guess what you'll find ?

Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
I have been looking in on the forums for a few weeks now as we are visitng CVO (look what I learned already
) for the first time in Sep and have found it an interesting mix of advice and fun, just what every good forum should be, I have gained information on the progress of the Square to most lively bars/places to visit etc.
I felt I had to comment on the post about the 'casual visitor' not reading the various topics in this section I find most people will go deeper into sites if they feel they can gain information . As a 'guest' you don't not need to register so how can it be known how many people are gathering information just as I have done, a lot of the time guests don't feel the need to register to comment about topics and therefore you maybe aren't getting a true reflection of how many visitors you have reading.
Thanks to all who have helped make us feel more prepared for a trip to a resort we knew very little about but just like the look of from a web site.

Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
Look at the Albufeira forum it has sections on Beaches, Nightlife, places to stay, places to eat in addition to those of interest to property owners.
It has far less of the " Chit Chat " type contributions.
Not that there is anything wrong with that but it does seem to dominate at the moment.

Yes it does - but on the Chit Chat part where it's OK. Guests don't get to see all the squabbling and back-biting . . . . that's a pleasure reserved for registered members.EMM wrote:....Not that there is anything wrong with that but it does seem to dominate at the moment.
Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
Ok, after 2 years of being a 'guest' I've finally been forced to give in & register to share my views. I don't wish to upset anyone with my first post, but I'd just like to say that I've found this forum an absolute goldmine of information, & it can put a smile on my face some mornings over coffee with some of the comments! We'll be coming out for our 5th holiday in CVO 6 weeks today, (hurray) & I've found allsorts of info, from the beaches, (it led us to Ferragudo) to restaurants, to the children's playground, supermarket price comparisons, & I'm finding the progress of the square extremely interesting, if not a little worrying! So there are probably loads of other 'lurkers' out here scanning your forums!
ps. we're staying at Quinta d P, & I can't fathom out how to get there from the airport without going into CVO itself, so if anyone could help with that at some point I'd be very grateful! See you all soon!

Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
Welcome bessieboo and it's nice to see Carvoeiro's number one charmer, Michael Crane has welcomed you to
The best way to QDP is either via the Sesmarias road out of Lagoa, or as you approach Carvoeiro, turn right after the petrol station up the windy hill and left at the top.
Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
I think part of it is down to timing. During the winter months a lot of people dont seem to spend time posting as they may not be visiting until the following summer. I for example find myself posting more frequently in the weeks leading up to a visit but dont under estimate the value of the site to those who browse. I find it fantastic to keep up with life in the village and most especially with all the doom and gloom around at the moment it is like a breath of fresh air. I was in the village last week and things are very quiet "alarmingly so" but I guess that is just a sign of the times. Hopefully in the weeks ahead the boys with the flourescent jackets finish up the endless hammering and grinding and the hotels start to fill up and all will then be well in "heaven"

Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
Welcome bessieboo. It took me a few tries to get the back road to QDP. Come off of the motorway at the Silves turning and follow the CVO sign., watch out for the steep bend. Keep following the CVO signs on the N125 over the big roundabout and then right at the traffic lights by the Wine Coop. At the first roundabout take the right hand exit not the one signed to CVO. At the next roundabout take the second exit which will take you bast Boa Vista on the left and up to a new roundabout at the shrine. Go left here for about half a mile past a lot of posh new builds on the right, there's a sharp right hand bend and then a road immediately on the right up a steepish climb. Take this road for around a mile and you'll come to the turning right into QDP.
You can turn right at the shrine but I think it's a bit more difficult to explain.
Perhaps others will expand on this route. It is easier than it looks on paper and you do want to miss going through town if you possibly can.

Re: Very Little Interest In Carvoeiro
I'm not sure we would have discovered Carvoeiro, except for this site. We had never visited the Algarve, when in 2003 someone recommended trying it, knowing that we had a longer term aim of buying a villa in the sun. A quick google brought up carvoeiro.com, and found us a villa for our holiday. We fell in love with the place, and now spend half our life in the village, with the hope to spend most of our time there. Think it is a great site doing an excellent job. And the forum is still attracting new members, so we must be doing something right.
