Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
Two weeks yet before we hit the Algarve - It looks as though the square will be reasonably complete by then.
Regarding the trees - elsewhere, in the past, I've seen holes dug, palm trees delivered by lorry and set in the holes all in the space of one day and looking as though they've been there for ages. Perhaps this is the plan.
We will be staying a car drive away from CVO, so as others have said, where to park is going to be interesting. We usually park at the top of restaurant hill (Estrada do Farol?). However, I suppose this will be more crowded than ever since the works on the square began.
If we can't park I suppose we may be tempted to drive on somewhere else and try another day. It will be a shame if tourists are put off visiting CVO because of the lack of parking spaces. Although I guess those of you who live there will be quietly celebrating the reduction in traffic!
We will be back again in September and it will be interesting to see the difference a few months may make.

When looking for parking, we took the first right up Restaurant Hill and were lucky enough to find a space failrly close. Failing that, if you keep going you'll end up by the school and there's plenty of parking there.

Thanks 'laser'. We will take the Restaurant Hill route and we'll probably be o.k. Looking forward to seeing 'the new CVO' in person rather than via webcams.

One thing I havent noticed (or havent looked hard enough!) will the taxi rank still be in the same place with access up and down restaurant hill?

It's still there at present and I can't see that it would move.

Oy you lot - please make sure you leave me a parking space at the top of restaurant hill as that is where I live!!! Perhaps I need to lobby the council for parking permits ...

Looking at the most recent picture - it appears to have a diagonal path across the square - does that mean that traffic can no longer come down the hill past the GNR station?

Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
if you look at the picture of what it should look like when it is all finished it seems that the cars will not be allowed through the center, don't know where they will go tho'

Keep reading posts saying work should be completed by various deadlines, many of those past by long ago???PTBUXTON wrote:+I'd like to ask the same question no new photos since 30th marchGary/Gaynor wrote:Any more news of progress or new pictures![]()
From webcam there still appears to quite a lot of work to do??
Thanks in anticipation.
Re: Will the Square be sorted out by September?
As of yesterday there was NO access past the GNR, NO access on the old in road and NO access on either the old out or in out roads.
It is very difficult to work out the new routes for through traffic ( if any ).
The access of Monte Carvoeiro is signposted DIVERSO , access past solfeiras up the hill turn right and then follow the signs.
It must be long term as the restaurants and Jazz Bar have added their signs to the Diverso Signpost as well.
It is having an effect much less traffic in town and easier for pedestrians except for those ( owners/workers ) who still insist on parking on the pavement outside of the roundup even when there are empty spaces close by.

See Gambrinus earlier post dated 9 March 2009, that the road layout was going back to normal except for the road to Monte Carvoeiro from the centre, would be down rather than up.shanagarry wrote:Looking at the most recent picture - it appears to have a diagonal path across the square - does that mean that traffic can no longer come down the hill past the GNR station?

That doesn't appear to be the case if the traffic cannot pass the GNR station or does it mean traffic will be allowed to drive across their brand new calcada?
