Search facility is useless.

Post by dj sull »

I've asked questions on the forum that have apparently been asked before. I've then been told in no uncertain terms by the beautiful people of the site that i shouldn't have done this and that i'm ruining it for everyone else and that i should use the search mechanism. Some time ago i remember seeing a recipe for homemade piri piri sauce somewhere on the forum and as it will hopefully soon be barbecue weather, i thought i'd try making my own from the recipe i'd seen. So to save time i typed 'piri piri recipe' in to the search engine and it came back with ' 0 matches found'. Now i know for well there is atleast one recipe for piri piri sauce on here but the search engine couldn't find it. In fact, every search engine i've ever used, no matter what website i'm on, always comes back with the same answer. ' 0 matches found'. That's why it's probably best to just ask the question again. Some people will hopefully help.

I don't understand why people get upset when a question is asked again. I agree that the search facility is not always straightforward but more importantly, when you re-ask the question you are introducing it to newer members who missed it first time around.

As for the piri-piri sauce, we get ours from a bottle.

Hi DJ...

Piri -Piri sauce.Molho De Piri-piri (Portuguese hot red pepper sauce)

2-6 chili peppers (depending how hot you like it)
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1 cup of olive oil
third of cup cider vinegar

Remove stems and chop the chili peppers coarsely (with seeds) and place in a shaker jar with the other ingredients, cover jar tightly and shake well.
Will last up to a month....each time you use it shake well.

Thanks Ellie for the recipe. Sounds less complicated than i expected. Did you get this recipe from an authentic portugeezer?

Yes DJ.....its an old one from my lovely Portuguese friend Maria, who was my best friend when I lived in Lagoa.
Hope it works out ok for you...but be careful about the 'strength', maybe be best to use a few chili peppers to start with and see how you go
Boa sorte/ Good luck

Oh BTW, she made a lovely salad dressing too..very simple:
white vinegar
some crushed garlic
light olive oil
and a little sea salt
again put in a shaker jar and shake thoroughly
Its very simple but very effective. We used to have this on the salads she made at our workshops and went perfectly with the grilled fish, when we ate alfresco! :)

This is all making my mouth water :P

dj - the search function seems quite sensitive (useless is another way of looking at it).

If you input piri piri in the search field and press go, nothing turns up. If you do the same, but select the Food topic in the select forum pulldown, then you get 43 answers. I suspect the function needs a bit of tuning to be a bit more "user friendly".

dj, did you do an Advanced Search? Perhaps not. Go into Advanced search, inuput 'piri +piri +recipe' (include the +) and you find at least 14 references to 'piri piri recipe'.

This has prompted me to make additions to the FAQ.

Well done DJ and Ellie. A whole new audience has been introduced to the piri-piri sauce recipe :)

Also "Mentioned in Despatched", MC for explaining how to use the advanced search facility. :)
