Caneiros - where's the beach gone???

I have just had a call from my mum who is having lunch at Caneiros beach and she said that there is no beach left , the sea is actually under the restaurant. Even with a strong tide it should not have all disappeared.

Can anyone explain ?????

Unfortunately they have already left for the airport, but if anyone who is out that way soon can have a look......

Apparantly last week about 5 feet of sand disappeared off Centiannes beach as well, leaving the steps down off the walkway suspended about a metre above the sand.

When I was in the Algarve last Wednesday , despite cloudless skies , there were very strong winds producing a lot of big waves and a lot of frothy white surf so I am not at all surprised if a lot of sand was washed away

Many years ago we used to holiday in Burgau. The staff at the Beach Bar told us that losing the sand off the beach was a regular occurrence there and that it always came back again. We only ever saw this once over quite a few years. It really didn't look like the beautiful Burgau beach that we had come to know and love. I would think this may happen at Caneiros too. Hope so.

2 days later , there was the beach with sand as currently known

Last winter some of the sand disappeared from Albandeira beach causing quite a big drop from the end of the steps onto the beach and a rock pool at the back of one side of the beach. The sand reappeared later.

We went down to Caneiros beach to have a look tonight on our way into work and unfortuanately there is still no or very little beach. The sea has come right in to be underneath the restaurant so there is only a small amount of sand left as you go down the steps.

Let's hope that the beach returns soon as this was surely one of the nicest in the Algarve

Hope the beach reappears by Easter Saturday as I am going there for lunch and love to work up an appetite by laying on a sunlounger supping a cold beer beforehand!

Its all to do with hightides related to spring equinox -don't panic the beach will be back (or there will be some sunbeds going cheap)
