Smoking Ban
Ellie wrote:Digger..what do you mean by the above...yawn..yuk....not a smoker by any chance?
No I’m not a smoker, and reading that stuff about it was making me feel a bit woozy. Couldn’t find the right emoticon. I need one to express a technicolor yawn.
I sucked on those little SG Filtros for about 20 years (only about 10 a day) and when I couldn’t get them I’d smoke Old Holborn, but packed it all in Feb 2003.
Now….”live and let die”: that’s my motto

Loretta, good points raised. Children with parents who smoke definatley dont have a choice in the air they breath. Also I think that restaurants/bars etc. should be segragated between smoking/non-smoking. I dont think though (although im no doctor) that someones health can be effected that much by spending a few hours eating a meal while someone smokes-especially since most places operate a divide between smoking/ non smoking areas. surely you would have to spend large amounts of time breathing in passive smoke to be affected by it (e.g. Roy Castle).
I do think the whole smoking debate reflects our cultures obsession with safety. If you look at things like the media, the majority of programmes /documentaries that are around all focus upon the dangers we face living in the world. Although I think health issues are important, I think that If you live your life with the main aim to be preserving that life, you dont live at all. After all, you've got to die of something. I definatly sign up with Diggers motto,”live and let die”.

Yeah but even he died of lung cancer!
I saw a report about a limo that parks outside posh NY restarants and allows poeple to sit inside and smoke.
The restaurant owner was so pleased when this service showed up as he had lost a substancial part of his buisness due to the smoking ban in and outside the restaurants. Now his clients who smoke slip into the fancy vehicle between courses for a smoke and a chat.
I am a smoker and I am absolutely fine with stepping outside my non-smoking office for a ciggy. However, if a restaurant or bar no longer provided a place for me to smoke a cigarette, I would stop going there.
I think that an extreme measure such as a complete ban will be very harmfull to individual buisness owners and not at all in their best interest.

Smoking-message for Ellie
Ellie,
Never mind encouraging people to smoke and blow it on us poor sailors at sea.
Dont mind smoke in public places, it is to be expected really, but nobody smokes in my house or on my boat.

We'v had Freddy Laker, Branson, Ryan Air, Go, Easy Jet etc - now who will be the first to start up a smokers airline where passengers can go where they want whilst puffing away happily like it used to be. Sounds like a winner to me!
Mind you I believe on Aeroflot you can smoke black cigars whlst tipping the vodka back!

Sorry about that Guest 38.....forgot about all you mariners on the ocean waves.
But your boat sounds a haven for those of us who like to take pure wonderful(sea) air into our lungs..d'you take trippers?
Well-Ive always wanted to see Russia..and I wouldn't object to the cigar aroma mm (black ones? smell nice?)...whilst I quietly sipped the 'wodka'!
"where smokers can go where they want"..Biffa ?
How about a seat on the wing

It was announced on RTE (Irish State Radio) this morning that the Minister of Justice last night sacked his junior minister after he was caught smoking in the members bar in the parliament. The junior minister had repeatedly voted against the bill to ban smoking, which came into effect on the 29th of March
