Anyone any experiece with the flat/angled solar mat type pool heating systems?

Is there a local supplier?

Also interested in this as I was talking to a friend this morning who used to live in Spain and instal pools.
I asked about heat pumps and he said why did,nt we try a solar panel / solar pumps with a trickle system.

The theory is that you can use a smaller area of panels, it is connected to the pool 24hrs day 365 days a year.
The relatively small volume of HOT water eventually warms up the pool but it does take time.
When combined with a pool cover it gives a few extra degrees for a relatively low cost.

Sound like it could work in theory.

I have now done a lot more research and also got advice from "flying fish" he used a belgian company called poolheater - says he gets 8-12C temp rise (with a night cover)
I have now got a quote from them which seems very reasonable - approx £1300 inc shipping

maccasa, how big are the panels? we need to think about heating our pool but have seen some which are huge and you need quite a lot of them, I think those are unsightly and would prefer something more discreet.
I have the idea of using the wind and getting a wind turbine (not a huge one

just one big enough to run the pool). Anyone had an experience with these??

Hi Lesley Jean- you need approx 2/3 rd of the pool area as flat panels.
Mine is 50m2 so we are using 35m2 of panels mounted flat on the top roof so you cant see them.
You can walk on this material and it is sometimes used as the edging around the pool.
We originally intended to put 4 rows of 2 panels 6m x .8m on angled boards on the garage roof but it is not recommended due to wind problems and as Portugal sun is almost overhead, a flat system is fine.

To all of you who were interested in our solar panels - The panels were fiotted on the roof approx 10th July - 8 "strips" 6m x 0.6 m. We moved in July 14th - had filled the pool by 16th and on 18th it was 31C in the main part and 34C in the jacuzzi end! They seem to work very well.
