if you had to chose from one of the areas like villa nova, quinto do parassio ect which one would you chose and why?

Anne, its funny but all the time we lived there we hardly went to the beach (too busy I suppose)...

but on our lunch breaks a favourite spot for us, was up on the clifftops at Roch Brava....I used to love walking there in the little wilderness, with the straggled pines and herbs and little rock pools. I would wander off on my own and find a grassy spot to sit with my back against a tree and just take in the marvellous sea air, drift and dream.....all my troubles would leave me..

Well I would say Vila Nova wouldn't I, as our place is there.
Quinta do Pariso is very nice but lacks the local touch, like Vila Nova.
Many of the apartments are owned by people resident there and as the complex is run by Portuguse people, it makes us feel a part of the community. Its not overly manicured either, which suits us.

i like villa nova also not as big as some of the other areas, but have you stayed in any of the other areas? if so what did you think?

I like villa nova too and solferias which is nice, as you ask in your post ahendry ....also in the west....Oh yes, and Centiannes and Rocha Brava in the east

but why,what makes these places stand out is it the place ,the people you meet or whats provided on site. im only asking as we have never tried most of these places and im wondering what makes them stand out from all the rest. i already have my villa booked for this year so im not trying to get anyone to advertise, just a general question about all the different complexes that are available and what makes them worth staying there.

Anne I have had hols at Vila Nova and liked it there.....but not sure I would now since they've built on the 'wilderness' there. We stayed near the Vila Nova complex a few times and I loved walking on that wilderness with the shrubs and wildflowers.

Been to Quinta do Paraiso beach a few times (down all those steps!) and enjoyed that very much. Ive been onto the complex there and walked around it seems quite nice place.

But you know me a bit by now and if I couldn't afford apartment in Carvoeiro (which we couldn't) then it would be Lagoa for me

Are you thinking of buying in Vila Nova or Quinta do Paraiso then?

ellie we have been thinking of buying out there for years but i think i mentioned in another post that we run a joinery company and right now its not going so good no houses being built right now and no new ones selling. i asked this becase we come every year and we have never tried anywhere else but the two i brought up or villas that sit on there own. we have never hired a car and with mum and the kids walking is a bit restricted so i thought i would ask the people who have been to these places to tell me more about them and also to go into a bit more detail just for the future. i think you are a bit sad that the places you once knew and loved have been built on to make way for us tourists i understand this and its horrible that it has happened. i only know cvo how it has been for the past six seven years wish i had know it when you did.

Yes I do feel sad when I see bits of natural countryside disappear and I did have a fiondness for that little wilderness at Vila Nova..loved walking there and looking at the wild flowers

It was the same a few years ago, when we went to Algoz. I would walk on the outskirts(as you leave the town) and love to see the wildflowers blooming but the last time, we were there, it was being built on. 'Progress' I suppose?

Carvoerio was still a fishing village when we lived there and you could watch them bring in the catch or see men mending their nets. Some might think differently but I think it still has that small fishing village ambience.

I don't know Quinta do Paraiso very well but it does seem quite nice there.

My dearest wish would be to have a spacious apartment in Lagoa with very large terrace or balcony.
I have had the offer of a cottage there to rent with a roof terrace that has views right across the countryside.
But we are still considering the mobile homes near Tavira.
I do hope your joinery business picks up Anne. Its a very worrying time for many people and that you get the chance to make the big move some day, whether its Vila Nova , Quinta do Paraiso or anywhere else in that lovely part of the world, Algarve!

Ellie there is a huge amount of building going on in Algoz, I have no idea who they think are going to buy them, there are houses in the middle of town that were finished over 2 years ago & have never had any owners. Forutnately we are in the Ribeira Alte area & it is still very, very beautiful. I count my blessings every day.

If I had to chose an area close to Carvoeiro it would be Sesmarias.

Its been an age since we went to Algoz. I remember crying there on our last visit as all the memories flooded back to me.
The bit where I used to walk was as you came in from the main road EN125? Where lotsa buildings (villas ) were going up?
I was upset as I saw a horse and cart being practically driven off the road by the speed of traffic..the horse was terrified!

Hi Eve, Id love to know what you think of Tavira..maybe you'd get back to me on that please?

I have a South African friend up at Vila Nova and we've rented her apartment a few times. We really liked it there but don't know if I would now with my little wilderness gone

Im wondering if anyone has a place at the Pestana complex? We went there in search of an old friend(never found him). It did seem very artificial to me? In fact I felt a bit 'creepy' there. I recall that opposite the entrance was another 'wilderness' and it seemed to look very 'at odds' with the complex?
Don't know much about Quinta do Paraiso..but it is handy for Carvoeiro and the beach there(I keep wondering if Ill ever be able to face all those steps down to the beach again
