GOOGLE MAPS

When was the Algarve map last updated.
All we can find is at least 3 years old.
Are we looking on the wrong sites ??

Don't think so but I may be wrong. I have noticed several areas which were last updated in 2003 or 2004 and indeed road junctions which have had roundabouts for the last 2 - 3 years still show the original road layout.

Must check the version of Google Earth I am running.

Does Google earth not update itself ?? If not how would you then get an updated version?? sorry I really am rubbish when it comes to things like this.

I'm not sure....but I assume NASSA or whoever provide Google with the sat photos, and somebody has to then feed the photos into a computer to update the maps.

I suspect its a matter of Google paying for the updated maps, and the priority in which millions of mosiac maps are updated. Obviously the USA will be the priority.

LJ, you have to update the program your self. Run Google Earth and go to the tool bar at the top of the page scroll down to check for updates and follow the instructions.

Thanks, I have updated Google earth unfortunately the view of our house is still the same and about 3 years out of date..... oh well

Thats exactly what we have found, although our villa was finished 12 months ago, Google still shows a bare piece of ground.

How has the view of your house changed over those three years? Has it moved to a different part of your road?

haha..... no .............. it is still in the same place and still looks like it did before we had finished renovating it about 4 years ago. So basically it hasn't changed even tho' I now have the latest version of google earth, their maps are very old

I seem to recall that they have several satelites up there slowly revolving around the earth and taking pictures, but I cannot for the life of me remember what the update cycle for the piccies is.

Imagery updates should not be confused with software updates. The last major imagery update was 2006 though there is an ongoing programme.

If you want to see the future of Google maps select somewhere like Seville. Click on the little man icon on the left and drag him onto the streets. You can then "drive" along the streets. This updating has been done for some countries but has been held up in the UK by privacy laws

Shame when the major imagery update was done in 2006 that they didn't do the Algarve, it is still as it was 4 years ago.

I love the ability to 'drive' in major cities, it is such fun
