Mountain Biking in the Algarve

Post by dawnw »

We are looking to stay in Carvoeiro/Burgau area in late August.
My hubby is a keen mountain biker - can anyone tell me if there are any good trails around the area and if bike hire is available?

Thanks,
Dawn.

Dawn, do not visit the Algarve at all in late August. Hot, far too busy, and one big traffic jam. We visit September or before June. You wont see the Algarve at its best at that time of year honestly - too full of us tourists  And if anyone argues with that then I am only repeating what you already know and has been said on this forum on many occasions. You said you wanted relaxation you wont get it then especially with all the kids on holiday!!

Go to the Anteak Bar, speak with Arjen and he certainly can help you further.

By late Aug, I mean the 28th or 29th - is it still busy with kids/families then?? (you can tell I don't have any can't you?!!)

My hubby is granted a long leave period each year, which this year is the 26th of Aug - 15th Sept so we are restricted as to when we can go. I must admit from the replies I've had I'm kind of thinking the Algarve isn't the place for us.

At that time of year the weather is usually still hot so maybe look on internet, or specialist tour operators to Portugal then you can look for places further North or West, which is what we are considering doing wanting to get away from the crowds. The Douro Valley seems to be the new place to visit?
Algarve resorts along coast are busy but as soon as you drive a few miles inland or further west you will get a taste of real Portugal and prices are so much cheaper.
If you are not on a tight budget, someone did mention a luxury hotel/spa. place just outside Carv. a few months ago which seemed heavenly but cant remember the name so maybe forum users know which one I am thinking of?!
Do try to get to Algarve or Portugal-you won't regret it-people,culture, food etc. superb- Good Luck!!! :)
