Hope nobody thinks I'm being nosey but what's wrong with Karen? Sounds real serious if the operation took 10 hours, but anyway all the very best for a speedy recovery Karen from us all here in Edinburgh :) hope your back on your feet real soon

on the iPhone from hospital so apologies for spelling mistakes!

Op seems to have gone well the surgeon is pleased with his handiwork!

Out of bed for first time today - bit strange! - starting Physio tomorrow. Will be here a few more days yet.

Mum and dad been up, dad doing well thanks.

For those who dont know the details - major spinal surgery to rearrange the vertebrae in a more pleasing and functioning way and fixed with over 10,000 euros of metal rods and bolts! Most of my spine has been re -positioned plus ribs, hips, pelvis, should come out a bit taller too!

Getting the abs best of care here, anyone facing surgery in Portugal, don't worry it's excellent

Wow that is major Ktee, I wish you a speedy recovery, on the plus side you say you should come out a bit taller so you could make a profit selling your trousers and jeans that will be too short now

Think that ship sailed a long time ago, tricky (if it ever docked!) unfortunately only the body is longer not the legs - the impossible they can do, miracles take a little longer :D

Glad you're happy with the Portuguese treatment.

Seems likely that you won't be able to leave the country without creating a major uproar at the metal detector security checks in the airport

Get well soon.

I'm in the Egas Moniz hospital in Lisbon - it's in belem just next to the 25 April bridge

It is a state hospital, not private, and although needing a lick of paint (!) in places the staff and care is excellent. Not overly keen on the food but I don't think that's just a Portuguese hospital problem!

If you are coming in somewhere like this, best brush up your Portuguese, though!
