New ownership Carvoeiro Bar

Currently closed for season, but reopening under new ownership Feb 14!

New owners are John and Francien from next door's restaurant Maxime. They will keep they bar in the same tradition as Hans & Joke did for so many years, although there will most likely be some food (like snacks, plates, etc.) available as well.

Hope they are staying in the area, be nice to bump into them from time to time. Had a chat with Peter (ex Mungos) last year (might have been 2007) and he seemed to be doing well, any news on him?

They will have to change it from a smoking bar into a non smoking one if they want to do food there. I wish them good luck, they run a great restaurant so hopefully the bar will be good too. We always use it when we are over.

I wonder, does that apply if you only serve smoked food?

Well, actually it does not apply at all... Whether one serves food or not, has nothing to do with allowing smoking or not. It is up to the owner of any bar, snackbar or restaurant, smaller than 100m², whether smoking inside is allowed or not.

If the owner decides to allow smoking, all that is needed is an extractor, and Carvoeiro bar has the most professional system I have ever seen.

Yes they have . . . . and it's not bloody working! Has anyone told them it has to be plugged into the mains?

Strange Rob as that is what I was told, that if you elected to be a smoking bar you could not serve food. Oh well, maybe I am wrong again!!

No, they have not sold Maxime, John and Francien will keep on running Maxime's as before. Their son Edwin will run Carvoeiro Bar, together with Jennifer who has been working there last year already.

So yesterday night Carvoeiro Bar reopened, and obviously we went there to see what was going on. Well, nothing much has changed, Edwin is now there together with Jennifer and they were doing pretty well for the first night open. It was rather busy, and we sampled some of the snacks they now offer. Very nice indeed!
