Advice for Jan visit

Hi Guys

I am coming to CVO on the 24th Jan & I was wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on some nice places (bars,restaurants,clubs) to go to. I appreciate that this time of year will be a little on the quiet side. However, i am bringing across my new fiance (ball & chain) & the future in-laws. I have been in the summer on many occasions but this is my first time @ the start of the year. I am staying at my fathers villa (mike verran) but his taste leaves alot to be desired.

also shall we bring our thermals?

I would certainly bring your thermals, it's freezing at the moment! Can be pleasant enough in the sun in the day though, but absolutely bitter at night, however this can change very quickly and might be a lot better by the time you arrive but I'd bring them just in case!!

Bar Talvez on the Rua do Farol (restaurant hill next door but one to Brady's Bar) is still open, you will get good service there, Rachel and Serjio always give people a very warm welcome, the restaurant Casa Algarvia next to Talvez is also open. I think the Havanna Bar, more or less opposite these two has just re-opened again after a short break.

The other end of town, Cheers Bar in the Rua do Pescadores (the "in" road to Carvoeiro) is open at the moment (good cocktails) and the Irish times also on the "in" road but nearer to the square is always open, (good breakfast served there) and Hemmingways, the small bar that opens onto both the "in and out" road is open

Escondidino opens again tonight. Escondidinho is the Casa do Pasto at the back of the Quinta do Paraiso. Some regulars refer to it as "the ritz" due to it's basic and very cheap style (I think it's about 9 € per person, all in, including dinner, wine, coffee & brandy although that was last years price!)

Certainly cold at the moment. I had to scrape ice off the car windscreen this morning for the first time on any visit. Should warm up by Sunday, though. And Escondidinho was 8 euros when we visited before Christmas. Maybe it's a winter rate, or they're feeling the competion from nearby O Branco, which is 7 euros, with a choice of a meat or fish dish.

It's gone down at Escondidinho then, can't be bad! And you say O Branco is only 7€, do you know if it's open in the evenings at that price? it sounds very good

Hard frost this morning, lawn still white at 10.30 & apparently more to follow, brrrr!

thanks so much for the info, looks like plenty of port & superbock will have to be consumed so we dont feel the cold.
