Yes, whoever they are they seem to have got their cultures confused, they dress up like 'red injuns' but they play pan pipes like peruvians. Very odd.

Maybe they just like the costumes.

Their native dress costume is very close to the "red" Indian - fringe and feathers.

I live in Canada and been on many of the First Nations Reserves both in Canada in the U.S. I have never seen any such dressed individuals playing pan pipes for the public. I would believe the ones in Europe have gotten hold of some costumes and pipes and are taking the public for a ride. In fact if the First Nation community over here found out about these imposters they would be quick on getting a piece of the action.

The only instrument North American Indians traditionally play are drums.

I too have the feeling we're in the wrong place, but then I often do. A bit like our not so native american/peruvian 'entertainers'.

Thank you everyone for your replies, unlike Michael Crane who obviously has a big problem with this band. I actually enjoyed them which is why I asked about them. I've heard far worst in the charts today who just rip off other artists music and sell them as their own! If its true they may be fakes but brilliant at what they do.

I agree with you mandi05!
I quite like their music and remember sitting by the fountains area in Portimao listening to them and as you say, Ive heard a lot worse played out on radio/tv....
I bought one of their CDs that day

But I have a varied taste in music, ranging from classical, to jazz & blues and theres nothing wrong with the sound of the pan pipes either

They must be on tour.

We had them today in Newport (South Wales) head dress and all.

Perhaps they are a bit like The Drifters, where there are about 47 different versions touring the world at any time.

If you check out Ayllu, it is a pre-Inca tribe. The group are originally from Equador, but have been based in North America for about 20 years (Portland). Love being the font of useless knowledge.

Hub searched it out for me Mandi05. The CD is called 'Andes Feelings' and the group seems to be called 'INKAMARU'..Ths is the group we saw in Portimao.

Must admit I've seen a very similar group in Swindon shopping centre. Maybe someone is cloning them.
