Dream or Nightmare?
Theres a programme on channel 4 this Tuesday night called "House Trapped In The Sun"
Cautionary tales for Brits considering buying property abroad..being wary of unscrupulous developers/agents and foreign laws etc!
Should make for interesting viewing!
There was programme on this week about ex-pats in Spain..some having lived there for years..mostly elderly/retired. It was about property developers buying up land (supposedly to build houses for Spanish locals) but instead are building large luxury villas.
The ex-pats are finding that these developers are taking bits of their land gardens without their permission and they cant do a thing about it! So much for 'owning' property there!
Reminds me of a chap we knew when living in Algarve.He had a nice Portuguese house in Monchique..had been there couple of years. He woke up one morning to find bulldozers near bottom of his garden..theyd started building a road through his land! He was given no warning..it was a complete shock !
In fact at one point ..he couldnt get out of his driveway..had to leave his car parked some distance away! He ended up going back to UK as he couldnt take the stress of it all.
