I dont know if I got the spelling right. It's in the market place in the middle of the industrial estate the Carvoeiro side of the N125.

I have been banging on, on this forum about wanting to find some everyday style Portuguese food other than Piri-piri.

We had the great pleasure last week to meet Roy4eyes, and he told us where he and Carol sometimes lunch. So, encouraged we tried it. What a delight.
There are no pretentions about this place, but the food was brilliant.
A 3 course meal for 2, with bread and a bottle of local co-operative wine, came to 15 Euros for the 2 of us. Thats the price of 2 starters at most of the restaurants we frequent!

The soup was un-named...a sort of golden vegetable with cabbage or spinach floating in it, but it was really good. A sort of country soup that probably gets topped up every day.

My main course was exactly what I have been searching for. A sort of lamb....well...mutton...stew, with root veg and chickpeas. That all sat in a bowl on a slice of thick bread which you ate when you got down to it.
The lamb had enjoyed no fine dining butchery....it looked like it had been attacked by a maniac with an axe. You just picked it out of the bowl and ate it off the bone.
The juice soaked bread at the end was wonderful.

Julias was a similar pork stew done with flageolet beans. I cant say she enjoyed it quite as much as me.....she is, after all, a lady, and would much prefer to eat a sole in a ladylike manner

The dessert? Chocolate mousse....OK, the only effort there went into beating the powder from the packet into milk....but what the hell....for that price you dont mind!

All of our other meals out last week, were of the "fine dining" variety, and all in their own way excellent. But on a quality and enjoyment ratio per euro, I know what stood head and shoulders above the rest.

Hiya, Sounds great.
Are there any places that do thi sort of thing in the evening at this price, cos Richard does not eat lunchtime. This would be great in the evening and obviously keep prices down, then we can stay another week.

It's the FATACIL and open in the evening but lacking atmosphere compared to lunchtime.

Bruce you should have tried the 'bolo de roy' instead of the mousse !!

During the Easter 2003 Treasure Hunt, Sharen and I won a free lunch at Fatacil. We went with Carol and Roy and I must say we had a really good, authentic meal. I had rabbit and it was plentiful and delicious. It is very good value for money and, because 95% of the diners are locals, it has a real Portuguese atmoshpere.

It might not be to everyone's liking, but if you want a good meal at a low, low price, then go to Fatacil.

Not so bad now since they split smoking and non-smoking plus acoustic screens where the table football etc. is situated.
