The bar will probably be similar to the other mega bar that the owners have in Alvor.

Big competition for 'Dirty Nellys' RW? :)

Its funny, when folk here mention Barclays I can't help but think of an old friend of mine who had a house on that spot..an elderly lady whose garden I worked on many moons ago.
Then lo and behold a couple of years ago I was invited to a BBQ at the same house, this time rented by another friend. Both of these ladies have since passed away..
But times move on and places change.
Can you tell me please, have houses been knocked down to make way for this new bar/restaurant..or was it waste ground?
Just curious

There was a large old house on the site that had been empty for a few years. One day it was there, the next it had been raised to the ground.

I've been in the Black Stove a couple of times and its a half decent place, quite big and serves a decent pint of Guinness. Something similar in Carvoeiro would be a welcome addition IMHO.

Believe they're having a soundproof room for shouting and a boxing ring on the patio, I'm looking forward to it's opening, hope it's select though and not just a gigantic Sullies.

always amaze me to see bars like this - why would anybody want to go to Portugal to visit an Irish bar - if I want an Irish bar go to Dublin where they are much nicer . Have been past the one in Alvor and quite honestly do we want CVO to turn into what has happened there - its just a row of Irish bars selling Guiness and pies .
There are already 2 Irish bars and goodness knows how many Brit bars selliing full english breakfasts .If you want a themed bar go to Blackpool .
I just hope that the village can maintain what is left of its Portuguese character without turning into a strip like Albufeira with all its cocktail bars selling drinks with tacky names .
On a different tack - how have they managed to get planning permission for this - flattening a nice old villa and doing a substantial new build when most of us find it impossible to get permission for an extra bedroom .I feel sorry for the folk in the apartments and villas close to there as there is bound to be more noise
Moan over - what does everyone else think ?

I agree I really do not think another Irish Bar is needed, I am all for change , but really do not want the Village/Town to change any more, how did they get permission? Ialso feal really sorry for the people who have invested in the Apartments etc near by as I am sure it will damage the resale value?

I questioned that it stated Bar only but according to the people on site they told me Irish Restaurant / bar but definitely not club. At the momemt I think there are enough already.

Thanks Carol

Hope it is just a small place, the Businesses that are already in the Village are suffering so really cannot see why any more are needed, it would put me of buying around there and just glad we a little out of Town the other way.

Walked by there today WR2 and now understand what you mean by triffids. Large bulbous trunks with (as yet) no top growth. And nothing else happening on what is quite a large site.
Whilst talking about holes in the ground, anyone know where the new Health Centre is being built? According to the Portugal News, the basement is finished, and it should be ready for occupation next year.
