Bus from Lisbon

Looking for a bit of advice. Has anyone taken the bus from Lisbon to Lagoa ?? I am going to try to travel from Lisbon airport to Carvoeiro and was looking for some advice. How do you get from Lisbon airport to the centre of Lisbon to take the bus to Lagoa ? Where do you go to in centre of Lisbon to get this bus. How often does it run. How much it costs etc. etc. I went into frequently asked questions but the bus site is in Portuguese and I cannot seem to get anywhere with it Any info would be appreciated.

I can't help you with information but I can tell you that many years ago on my first trip to the Algarve we went to Lisbon from Lagos on a double-decker bus for the day. We had a really pleasant ride on the top deck at the front and was rewarded by some spectacular views.

We travelled up the A2/IP1, and the most spectacular view was entering Lisbon via the Almada Bridge! What a height!

Sounds fantastic Michael. I am hoping to take the bus from Lisbon around the first or second of Jan so a lovely winter breeze and a little colour in the scenery would be just heaven

The last time we got the bus from Lisbon to Lagoa the driver kept nodding off on the motorway and the coach kept wandering all over the place. Went on the train after that and having tried the train will never go back to the bus. Not much difference in price but the train is far more comfortable and has at seat refreshments and a dining car if you get the tilting train.

If you look in FAQs you will find links to both the train operators and coach companies. Trains can be booked and paid for in-line, including seat reservations.

thanks for the advice. Where exactly in Lisbon do you get the train and where does it travel to. My understanding is that it only travels as far as Tunes. Do you know if that is correct. The other problem is that the bus and train sites seem to be in portuguese and I have difficulty navigating them

forgot to ask Farol but if Tunes is the nearest stop, how far a taxi ride is that from Carvoeiro. I will be bringing a young family so after a 3 hour flight it will take a bit of doing !!!!!!!!!

We travelled by bus (I can't remember the name of the bus line) a few years ago from Lagoa to Lisbon and return. The terminal was located somewhere a few blocks east of the Praca do Duque de Saldanha near Arco do Sego. I would imagine the easiest way there from the airport would be by taxi.

A note of caution, though. Our return trip left Lisbon around 5pm when dozens of other buses were also departing for various places. In fact, there were so many buses leaving that the closed-circuit monitor showing the relevant departure platforms couldn't display them all. The girl at the information desk couldn't speak much English and, in any event, was overwhelmed with questions from other travellers. So, we had no idea which platform our bus was leaving from. As a last resort we just walked around the departure area until we luckily found our bus just as it was loading.

As we pulled out, I glimpsed a desperate-looking lost soul wandering around as we had just done and I often wondered if he, too, was looking for the bus to Lagoa!

About 3 or so years ago went to Lisboa from Lagoa for 3 day trip (it was 30 euros return then)...booked it at Galtur shop on the outroad of Carvoeiro.
I really enjoyed it. The journey was leisurely and we went through some very nice countryside. The seats were comfortable, air conditioning, and TV.
I agree with Forester that there was some confusion at the bus station in Lisboa (we got a taxi there from our Lisboa hotel)..but luckily my friend speaks fluent Portuguese, so we had no problems.

Have to say that I enjoyed the whole trip

I look forward one day to doing the journey by train!
