Wednesday Football Friendly

Post by biffa »

Come on you footy types - sorry Maddi!

How will next Wednesdays game finish?

England win?
Draw?
Portugal win

My bet is that it won't be that "friendly" and Svens men will be out for a confidence boosting win on Portuguses soil.

Why are you saying "sorry Maddi"???? I may not be able to come to the match but you should be able to hear me from there!!!!!!!!

We shall be having our usual football party extravaganza (my son is having 6 teeth removed that day under a general so he will be a barrel of laughs I am sure). Undoubtedly there will be my drunken half time post followed by my even drunker post match synopsis - so much for you all to look forward too

Ok Guys, half time and I threatened I would be here - Lamphard is playing like a star and the new boy - Ledley King is simply awesome, they can keep him, (obviously they cannot replace Sol full time as I would have to go into mourning but Ledley can stay - what a guy!!).

Beckham was apparantly playing during that first half but to be honest who can tell - great viewing, copious alcohol - I am happy - so far!!!

Maddi

p.s And Gerry, I have been watching RUI and Brazil and wishing all the very best for RUI, I love seeing them do well, they were brilliant and real stars, I think it is a real shame if the Irish cannot feel the same for the English.

The match

Post by Gazza »

I missed the game last night, but am interested hear from the locals who fortunate enough to be alloctaed tickets, what the new stadium was like? Was it well attended? I read in this mornings press that the atmoshere in and around the ground was good and the travelling supporters behaved themselves. Long may it continue!

Gazza,
I caught the highlights on BBC1 after 11pm last night..from what I saw ..stadium looked very smart..well attended and well-behaved and though Im not a big footie fan..I did get caught up in it all and was very impressed by both teams....actually felt my loyalties 'torn' between the two :) ..may they both do well in the tournament!...Ellie

Watched Wales (4) against Scotland (0) - brilliant display by Earnshaw who is definitely destined for the Premiership. I feel very sorry for the marvellous Scottish fans who were at the game - they were lucky to lose by only 4 goals. Oh for the likes of Law, Bremner & Baxter!! :(

With regards to England - watched this as well until I got bored with the constant stoppages for substitutions which makes the game a farce. With only 3 games to Euro '04 I would have thought Sven would know the buk of his side by now and should let them gel together. Stadium looked good.

Regards from a bright & sunny Wales!!

PS If David (Calamity) James is the answer then it must have been a bloody stupid question!

Gazza etc

Went there last night. Typical friendly really - no one putting themselves out and loads of subs. Great atmosphere though. Stadium great - different but great. Problem was getting there. We left well early and grabbed a bite at Algarve Shopping leaving there at about 6.30 pm (for a 9.15 k.o?). Met the traffic tailback well before the Faro airport exit off the Via Infante (just after that tunnel) Police clearly not in control as they should have been getting cars in the right lanes well before. Nightmare parking - took the Jeep and abandoned it in some half ploughed field heading up towards Loule and walked the mile back to the Stadium. Chaos in trying to find the right entrance, much of surrounding area of stadum unfinished.

This is Portugal though and the last turf will be laid at 5 mins to 3 before first kick off, it will look great and they will say "See - no problem"!

So leaving Guia at 6.30pm we got in the ground at 8.45! Many people were still arriving at half time!

Having parked so far away we had a fairly easy exit and got back to Cvo in about an hour. My mate who got to the ground really early and managed a nice car park spot got home to Portimao at 2.30 am having waited over an hour to get out of the car park!

Great atmosphere - no problems at all - little segregation of fans and plenty of good humour.

Gerry

I have nothing to be guilty about - and find nothing helpful, useful or good about maintaining 'old hate' and heaven help those who do, for they simply prolong the agony and pass it on generation upon generation - a very sad affair.

The thing that I would find most hateful is to have live a life that requires me to hold others in contempt - now that would be tragic.
