how do you pronounce carvoeiro

My ex boyfriend couldn't for the life of him pronounce Carvoeiro so it became known as Carve your hair off.

It's a great tongue twister though!

I used to pronouce it as it was spelt, however, our Portuguese friends corrected me, as they always do. Carvoeiro is pronounced, as Ellie said, Carve - where- oo.

The other ones everyone gets wrong are Porches - which is pronounced like the car porshe and the 's' at the end is silent. Also Portimao and Armacao de pera. You don't prnounce the 'ao' at the end as A O. It has an 'ow' sound (like when you hurt yourself and you say 'ow')

Re: Porches. I was sure that you pronounce the 's' so I asked my husband who is Portuguese and he confirmed that you do pronounce the 's'.

A lot of my friends are Portuguese and say it is pronounced like the car without the 's'! I always used to pronounce the s and they corrected me. Does anyone else now what is the correct way of saying it?

Our Portuguese carpentry lads always pronounced the 'S'...when they said it, it came out like Por-ches and not like the car.

How about 'Loule'? We always said just 'lool' but I did hear some say 'loulez'?
But maybe even the Portuguese say place names differently?

As I said above, our carpentry lads always cut short Carvoeiro and said 'Carvwhere'..

I've always said Porches with the 's' but I have heard locals saying it without (like the car)!!! I've always pronounced Loule "loo lay"- not sure if thats right though!!
