Bon Bon

Post by Alison »

Just goes to show that opinions on restaurants are a very personal thing. The Bon Bon has been one of our favourite restaurants since discovering Carvoeiro 5 years ago. The owner At (tall, Dutch guy), has always been charming and welcoming to us, the food has nearly always been delicious - (we had slightly overcooked fish once but they were apologetic and gave us free puds by recompense - their fish is usually excellent), we like all the little 'extras' and just enjoy the 'gentle' ambience - there are plenty of other places to go if we want somewhere with more 'buzz'. We had quite a long chat with At when we were over in early March - he was explaining the changes in staffing and the different menu on the lines of 'a new phase' in the restaurant's life. I know he did have trauma in the family before Christmas so maybe that may have led to the odd 'off' day?

Looking forward to going again in 2 1/2 weeks time!

We went to Bon Bons last Friday (jazz night) after an absence of about 10 months. All of our party of 4 were very impressed. The bill came to €170 with 2 bottles on wine - one house, one more expensive.

The waiting staff were different and were attentive without being intrusive. A new addition to me was a fixed price element on the menu where 3 courses cost €25. There was no choice of main course which was sea bass fillet with king prawn but At was happy to delete the prawns and give me another fillet of sea bass instead.

The restaurant seems to be very much back on song and we shall return later this month when friends come over from England.

Couldn't agree more Steve.

We went last night and the food was the best we have had over the years thanks to At's charming new chefesse.

An added attraction was to have Matt Lester joining the resident duo.

Can't say more - full report and photos in Carol's next newsletter.

Went Saturday as guests so not sure what bill was but clearly not cheap. We all mixed and matched from the gourmet menu. Excellent -cut above anything else around really.

Nice menu....with those prices, I assume you will be paying Steen something for the advertising?

It's not my biz Bruce... Although I do admit it is our favourite restaurant in Carvoeiro, and owned by a very good friend. :)
