COMPLIMENTARY DRINKS
Whilst I'm not going to name the restaurant involved as it is one of my favourites, I will bring to light something that does concern me.
Having almost scraped the patterns off our plates and feeling ready to burst at the seams, we received our complimentary port, poured from a large jug behind the bar. It was knocked back and enjoyed and rounded off a great evening. However as we were sorting out the bill we noticed a table where the drinks had been half finished but quite a lot remained in the glass. The glasses were removed from the table and the left-over port was poured back into the jug behind the bar
I was quite appalled by this and in future I'll have my eyes peeled.
Has this practice come to light before?

I think you should tell us the name of the restaurant. We own property there and spend a lot of money in restaurants in cvo and do not want to get some disease or whatever. This is a serious health issue!! Just think what you might not be seeing behind the scenes - the kitchen.

I can recall one incedent were the head chef kicked around a fillet steak (well done) and along came the compliment. FANTASTIC!!!!

Not a very savoury subject this... but I worry about the places/restaurants..where youre not allowed to 'flush' the loo and used toliet paper is put in the bin next to it!
Ive wondered how long it is before this is emptied...does it 'sit' there for ages..and what threat there is to our health with this 'sort of sanitation'

Talking this way..Im going right off my chicken piri piri!and my little glass of Port!

Re: Naming the culprit
Although the general disgust as well as the wish to see the names of those responsible is understandable, we do not really want to get hit with a suit for defamation.
So please, if you are serious about a complaint or detect health issues in a comercial establishment, contact the portuguese consumer defence http://www.deco.proteste.pt and ask for help.

Yes, I have found that to be quite a nuicance when trying to get support for foreigners, a lot of the local support sites are not translated.Anonymous wrote:The deco proteste site is all in portugese!
The regulation for health and safety should be conforming to EU norms, so I suggest you speak to your equivalent english department first. They will probably advise you on how to go about getting a complaint through.
I have decided to approach this from the other angle, if you have any of the following diseases (all contagious through saliva, although in some quantity) Common Cold, Flu, Upper Respiratory Infection, Meningitis,
Bacterial meningitis, Mononucleosis, Epstein-Barr virus, Cold sores, Cytomegalovirus, Molluscum contagiosum, Hepatitis B, Chronic Hepatitis B
or Polio, and are unable to consume a whole complimentary drink and you spit in your glass - could you please let me know what restaurants you use !!!
Obviously this will also affect the restaurants that don't pour remains back in the jug/bottle but hey ho!
