Thanks again Maddi. That's a useful tip about fillet. Sweet dreams.

Good morning, still haven't found that book, the scary thought is perhaps it has gone into the attic.

I should have said last night when I generalised about the meaning of fillet in mainland Europe as opposed to the UK, that the french are very clear about what is a fillet i.e. that not only only does it not have a bone but it comes from a very specific part of the animal.

I find it interesting in France that their set menu's often have the same entree in each of the price ranges but it is which cut of meat that determines which price band the dish falls in.

Anyway none of this is helping with Portuguese charcuterie, perhaps I need to look online!!

Steak at 4 euros per kilo. That works out at about £1.30 per pound. . Wonder what animal this meat comes from. Sounds as if it was exported from Newmarket or Aintree

The cheapest meat I ever found was deer balls in Texas - they're under a buck

But Meaty..how d'you know?
My French friend eats 'horse' every week ( and hes a connoisseur of food & the grape) and tells me you cannot tell the difference between some cuts of beef/steak and horse.
Incidently..he eats horsemeat..which he buys from a creditable 'cheval boucher'..because its a healthy meat..low in cholesterol.
Can I ask..was this frying steak or braising?
4 euros for a kilo(about 2&half Ibs ?) seems mighty cheap for decent steak.
Now if youre talking 'chicken'..yes...definitely cheaper than in UK and far superior quality :)
Happy eating...ellie(lover of French food :) )
