everso sorry to hear that about Geri..Gerry!
I take it this was recent trip/last week ?
That must have been awful for her ..and somewhat scary being away from home.
Glad to hear she received good hosp. treatment..was that at Fatima or Lisboa?

I hope that Geri is feeling better, what a horrible thing to have happen, I have had the jab (because of the long haul stuff I do), but if I hadn't I would never have bothered to have the jab for a jaunt within Europe. Please do pass on our best wishes.

Back to the dogs, Luise probably wasn't joking Ellie and I think you know that, poisoning and shooting dogs that are a nuisance is very common in the Southern European countries and elsewhere in the world - it really is only the North Europeans, North Americans, and Australasians who think about animals in the same way we do.

I am with Peter on how to deal with it, earplugs and a very large alcoholic drink - you will then sleep like a baby.

Depends on your understanding of large - if it is the same as a pubs' understanding of the the request for a large scotch say, then that would be well within recognised healthy limits for a man, infact a man could have a triple every night and remain within healthy limits. For a woman a double every night would put them on the limit.

Therefore the "cirrohsis" comment was way of mark, unless of course you were thinking of adding the nightcap to an existing drinking pattern.

Perhaps Morris8 you have only been to the Pas de Calais, you will find the french a completely different breed (goes without saying for Brittany as they are celts) in Normandy or Brittany, wonderful warm and generous people, friendly, helpful and a great sense of humour too (kept calling my father Monsieur Viagra because he was old but enjoyed flirting).

I am not that familiar with the Dordogne, are they more Normandy or more Pas de Calais?

Good Luck to the guest who has bought in Sarlat.
its a lovely place, steeped in history and very pretty.
The people in the dordogne are very down to earth and countryfied

Ive travelled all over France..met with nice folk and some not so nice..just the same as here in UK or in Portugal!

Maddi I dont need a geography lesson. I know France top to bottom left to right.My favourite part being the lavender fields of provence and visiting the wine caves of Beaune,Ive sipped many a good red there along with a few nuits st georges.
I didnt make myself very clear on my last posting.Many parts of France are lovely I just think its a shame about the populace! I find them to be miserable,impatient with anyone who doesnt speak fluent french.They should be made to come and live here,while we go and live in their beautiful countryside.

Forgot to say Ive heard that the frogs only change their underpants once a month on average. So dont stand to close to them

Sorry Morris8, wasn't aware I was giving you a geography lesson (feel sure that if I was we would be looking at the climate and agriculture of a certain area rather that its' position) seemed to think we were talking about the nature of the different personalities of the people who live in different parts of France - in my experience (albeit considerably limited compared to what you report about your experience - I am much less well travelled in France than you) I generally find the people of the Pas de Calais incredibly arrogant and boorish, however the people of Normandy (for example) display signs (sixty years on) welcoming their liberators and are wonderful, warm, welcoming, funny and charming and will speak all the english that you could need (and considering that why should they after all you are in France, I am deeply impressed by them)
