christmas / new year

Could any one tell me how far in front we would need to book a restaurant for Christmas and new years eve and which ones will be open please
Also if i decided to cook Christmas lunch would i be able to get most things to cook a traditional Christmas dinner

We have had Christmas Dinner at Maxims before - we booked in August, but that was only because I happened to be there and I knew that was where I wanted to go. They only have one sitting, so I would still book early if that is what you want to do.

At new year last year we decided to go to the chinese and didn't bother booking. However, if you are going to a restaurant where there is a party, then you will need to book.

Hi, Last year was our first Christmas as restaurant owners and we were open on Christmas Day and served a traditional English Christmas lunch anytime from 12 to 3. Like Maximes we only had one sitting as we did not want to rush people through their Christmas lunch and we closed when the last people left.

We were fully booked by the end of October but could have easily filled the restaurant 4 times over.

We were also open on New Years Eve and had many bookings for then as well.

Therefore our advice would be to book early

You can get everything you want for a Christmas dinner if you decided to cook. I would recommend getting your turkey, or whatever meat you have, from Blue Rock butchers in Carvoeiro, you order it about a week/2 weeks before. We got ours from there last Christmas and it was really good (we actually get all our meat from there, they're superb). You can get your stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, sprouts, etc, from Intermarche.

We would just love to do a big traditional family Christmas in Carvoeiro....*sighs*....hopefully just a couple of years, and it might happen?

Apart from when we lived there Ive spent a couple of Christmas's /New years in Carvoeiro.
The 'holiday' ones seemed a bit strange and we missed family. But the lady where we stayed made us very welcome and brought us in fresh homemade mincepies and Christmas cake and we exchanged gifts with her.

We also had a nice surprise one morning. On going onto our little terrace we found a plate covered with a cloth...and on the plate freshly baked scones which were delicious

The lady & her family were so nice to us that it made Christmas there very homely.

Thanks every one I'm really looking forward to it now were just waiting to see if some of the family are coming out and then we'll cook but if there's just the 2 of us i think we will definitely eat out

Hi Ma-ja's we are coming out on the 29th august for two weeks would that be leaving it too late to book ?

Sharen and I have had a good few Christmas dinners at the villa we rent. We are very lucky for its kitchen is fully fitted and as good as the one at home.

We buy all our food for the dinner in the village or Guia and have found all we wanted.

If you're stuck, we have plenty of room. Come and join us.

Apparently he lives around the corner. It's going to be bloody difficult avoiding him for two weeks.
