Tiles topped garden furniture

Post by VON VON »

Hello
Does anyone know of any garden furniture shops or garden centre where I may be able to buy a tiled topped patio table / chairs from without costing an arm and leg. We looked at the shop in lago near the fatacil when last over and found them to be too expensive [3,000 euros plus]. There must be some little shop somewhere down a little cobbled street where we can reasonably buy a set.

Any help would be appreciated.

Whilst you are at it....we are looking for a concrete round table, about a metre diameter.

Hi Gerry

Yes we have but they only had one in there - not much choice, I think we are going to have to get someone to make the base for us and then we can tile it ourselves. We only need someone with a wrought iron workshop who can weld a base together. so if anyone knows of anyone out there who does welding ............................. I'll watch this space

I'm after something similar. I want a double galvanised metal base with tile top suitable to sit eight people plus eight or ten chairs.

Tile top table - don't make my mistake!

Post by MALLYMAL »

A couple of years ago we drove to Portugal for a holiday, and loaded the roof rack with all kinds of things including a very heavy HABITAT metal table base.

I then sourced locally a piece of 2m x 1m exterior ply - 1" thick, and lovingly created a mosaic on it, using broken tiles from all the local building sites.

It was a labour of love, and took 2 full holidays. But just 1 year later, the extremes of scorching days, cold nights, & occasional downpours have taken their toll on my masterpiece. The ply has delaminated to the extent that eventually it was only the tiles & glue holding it together! ( I think the wood shop were also a bit loose with their definition of exterior ply!)

For now, I've made a simple heavy plank top, but would love to create another tile top one and think the link from the METAL FAB shop could be a great way of getting a metal tray base instead.

Incidentally, for anyone just wanting to buy a ready made tile top table, METRE MACO (now IZI) in Lagos have had tile tables on 2 separate occasions - they look like some kind of concrete bonded to the tile, so should survive the extremes of the Algarve.
