Marriage Vows

Post by Croft »

I have been looking at this forum for some time now and I have now joined to ask a question. Is it possible to reaffirm your marriage vows in Carvoeiro? In November of this year we will have been married for 25 years and I thought it would be a nice gesture to surprize my wife and renew our vows. I would appreciate it if any one can answer and what is involved re the costs.

Croft, if it's a 'surprize' she won't know she hasn't had it, will she? :P

I have done a lot of research on this as we are having a wedding blessing next yr in Carvoeiro following a civil ceremony in the UK.
As long as you are both Baptised you should be Ok to have a blessing at the church in Carvoeiro.
Despite you already being married the Bishop of Faro will need the following to be sent to him from your local UK Bishop - Birth Certificates, Baptismal Certificates and your Civil Marriage Certificate (to prove you are definitely married) - with the request that these documents are forwarded to the Parish Priest in Carvoiero. The big differences with not having the actual Civil Marriage in Portugal, is that there is no need for prior residence either within the Parish or in Portugal.
This all needs to reach the Parish Priest in Carvoeiro before the actual blessing so you will need to send them fairly well in advance to allow for the 'processing' at Portuguese pace.
But be warned, we booked our wedding blessing at the church with the priest for next year and then he changed his mind and is going on a retreat at that time instead. Now we are having the blessing in a private villa by the Chaplain of the multi denominational church (St Vincent) in Luz - much less paperwork and much easier to deal with!

In this weeks Portugal News there's an advert from the All Saints Anglican Church saying that they can arrange your wedding or wedding blessing and can offer locations including beach settings, gardens, a pavilion or a marquee for larger groups. They also can arrange photography etc. I don't know if the same would apply for the renewing of vows but you could give them a ring. Their number is 00351 282 380311, they also have a webpage www.allsaintsalgarve.org hope this helps.
