I find it hard to believe that someone as intelligent as you is that ignorant of popular current affairs. You don't have to watch a programme or read the tabloids (I do neither) to keep a grip on what is 'current' for many people (11 million apparently according to Guest).

Did you really think that someone as intelligent and as well informed as I wouldn't heve heard about this riduclous programme?

I knew you were being ironic (have seen your posts on the subject on h.co.uk and isn't it getting a bit "school playground" on there?), this was my opportunity to highlight just how badly irony translates to the written text and how easily one could be misinterpreted when using it.

As someone who uses irony in much of my humour (and to illustrate serious points in the work I do), I have learnt that irony only works if you can guarantee that your audience knows you are being ironic - which is a damn nuisance

I totally agree with you on the Hisaronu site. Although I still enjoy it I don't look at the vast majority of the topics or posts. Too many kiddies on there for my liking.

If Eddie had been strict about an age limit it'd be a much better site. As it is it's very childish - even for me!

Re, irony. I think it's about time Steen added an 'irony' emoticon so that we'd know when irony was being used. Tongue in cheek would do.

That is actually a good idea, like the idea of an irony emoticon, do try by using any number of emoticons to try and show that I am joking or being ironic and to show when I am just having fun or simply being friendly but it doesn't always work.
