A solution to fights in Carvoeiro.

Post by dj sull »

Why don't us forum members get together one night in the summer and go down to Sully's all tooled up and sort this out the only way these drugged up little chavs will understand? I tell you, they won't come back after Lesley Jean has wrapped a bottle of Sagres round their tattoed heads or Biffas 1st darling has stuck a flying headbutt on 1 of the rat boys. Seriously, it'll work. We'll turf the drug dealers out while we're at it and burn Sully's to the ground. Problem solved.

Has Sully's really got that bad then :(
I did notice when we were last out in March that there was a younger, louder croud, but I hadn't realised it was also a place where drugs were being sold?

I saw drugs being sold from a transit van at the taxi rank last year!

that's amazing, i was there not long ago and didn't see none of it, the music might be a bit loud for some people but it's not the only bar with loud music in carvoeiro (mungo's, roundup, jailhouse, ) play loud music as well and i don't see them getting a lot of stick, would it be because the people who slag of sullys be jealous? or are into some kind of personal vendeta because it has changed and more of the locals (portuguese) drink there?

sullies

Post by Robbie »

No I really don't think so Rotciv. Sullies has been a portuguese bar for years. The local people have always frequented the place. Over the years you would rarely have gone into Sullies and not met a crew of locals. In fact if you ask me the teenage crew who in fairness had to move somewhere because their old haunts have now closed have pushed the locals to the back burner. Certainly the older ones. My only concern is the fact that the teens find themselves partying very much in the heart of the village when it used to be off the main street. This can and has from what I have witnessed and been told caused a lot of disruption in the square. There are a lot of things that make Carvoeiro different from all the usual union jack shorts resorts (or tricolor for that matter) that run along the coast and I think the vast majority of the people on this forum are only concerned about the image and heartbeat of the village. You would be amazed how many people drive through the village on a sight seeing expedition only to return the following year to holiday. Three different families have come home from holiday after travelling to Carvoeiro on my recommendation during May and June and each family individually commented on the beauty of the village and all it has to offer but sadly each commented negatively about Sullies. Please don't shoot the messenger I loved the bar in the past and hope the new owners do well I just fear for the way things are going down there. :?

Do the owners of the bar realise what is going on re: the drugs? Maybe someone who lives over there or are on holiday should guide them to this website and this subject, they may feel they would like to respond to what has been said, maybe they dont realise that what is happening is having such a effect on regluar visitors. It would be intresting to hear their response.

that's a fair comment Robbie, but carvoeiro history was based on a few bars on the square and about 30 years ago all the square used to be packed full of people drunk, stoned, sober, i remember sully's first original name used to be called english pub, jailhouse used to be called whispers, i also remember a pub called long bar, that don't exist anymore, safari used to be one of the busiest pubs in carvoeiro, them days was also 3! night clubs in carvoeiro scott's than later changed to skubidu now desn't exist anymore, shilloh and bote, now if you wanted to know what was fights and drug abuse is you've should have been there to see for yourself, and what happened?
din't stop carvoeiro progressing, carvoeiro now is massive compared to 30 years ago, and i don't think that a few people having a beer and smoking a spliff outside sully's would damage carvoeiro image anymore than 30 years ago.

Loretta :)
Given the dimension of the bar itself, I would think it is a bit hard to overlook

I don't know if there is any need for them to react to this, Loretta. Sully's is probably doing better buisness than ever before. With such a crowd of people spilling onto the streets every night, it is no wonder that the peddlers focus on the location.

Whilst he may be able to throw them out of the bar itself, he cannot control what goes on on the street.
Plus, if he wanted a different crowd, all he would have to do is set the prices higher - problem solved.

Your right about what happens on the streets outside a pub is nothing to do with the bar owners. But a collective responsibility by local business and bar owners must play a certain part in community issues like this. What concerns me is a family resort being turned into a dealing place. Parents tend to have their children with them out much later than the norm, and to be expected being on hols. I for one have had the odd spliff in my time, but for kids to see this out in the open and in such a small vicinity is a little worrying.
Gary and I live in Holland and it's a pretty liberal place, but even the Dutch attitudes are changing of late towards drugs and protitution. Eveything has it's place in society, but we must take some resposnibluilty for what we do and what our youngsters see..
Well that's me off my soap box now.

I mentioned what was perceived to have been taking place in this establishment and have agreed with many of the salient points. I do know for a fact that the drugs are an issue there and that certain people are aware of the position. I know of two people that began working there when it was taken over this year, why they left, and it is reflected in the thread.
Let us hope just a big fight ensues in the square and then the place monitored a bit better and the owners take an online aproach rather than a back seat!!!!
