Has anyone eaten here recently ?

We went there last night around 7.30 to investigate it for Carol's newsletter only to find the gates shut, be attacked by a little ankle-snapper of a dog, a man who wearing shorts with no shirt who studiously ignored us and a tatty looking menu with nothing but plain grilled meats and fish offered.

Is it even still open ?

We ate here at Easter and were not impressed - the worst meal of the week. The fish of the day was certainly not impressive - the menu was restrictive and the owner seemed to prefer to sit and entertain his friends. Needless to say the restaurant was nearly empty. We have not been back. When the previous owners had the restaurant it was always closed then on a Saturday night.

They appear to still be open. We drove past a couple of weeks ago and they have a board at the roundabout - they are now offering a three course meal for around 8 euros - probably trying to compete with "The Ritz" dont know anyone who has been there though.

We are a short walk from O Branco, but have not visited since it changed hands. It did appear closed Saturday evening, which is unusual. It seems well supported by the Portuguese, probably because it's prato do dia is cheaper than Escondidinho at 7 euros. Would love to know if it is worth a visit.

We had a nice meal there. There was a big local birthday party but they found room for us and everyone was very friendly. Live Portuguese music as well.

LB, how about an evening meal at O Branco on 9th April ?
Your first night, my last, and lets see if we can get a few more to join us ?

It sounds like the sort of place where food comes second to a good evening out.

Sounds good. I'll give you a call when we get to QDP. I'd say it's the sort of place where the food is a good accompaniment to good company. Who else is up for it, Roy and Carol perhaps?

No - we are in U.K. then. I know it looks as if we are trying to avoid you - not so, just unfortunate coincidence.

We ate there a few weeks ago and the food (7euro special) was very ordinary, not as good as Escondidinho and a long way behind Fatacil. The worst thing was that we all came out smelling like chips due to the (old ?) vapourised cooking oil in the atmosphere. Saturday is dance night if you want to join the locals.
