How much does it cost to make a will in Portugal

Hi Folks
I am a joint owner of property with my wife - we have been quoted 500 euro each for making a Portugese Will total euro 1000.00
does this sound reasonable -
has anyone got any insights to this

I paid 400 euros for my will to be done a few years ago, so it sounds about right. If they are exactly the same apart from changing the names on each of the wills, then paying 1000 for two does seem a bit over the top though.

In November 2005, my wife and I paid a total of 683 euros for the preparation of our wills, which were identical apart from the names. This was made up of 300 euros to the lawyer for drafting the wills, and 383 euros to the Notary.

thanks to all who have responded - it appears that there is quiet a variance in the prices they can charge even allowing for the time differences - it will probably pay us to shop around

Hi, Does anyone know, what will happen if you are residents in Portugal with property and one of you dies but you have not made wills? How does the Portuguese law work - will everything go to the survivor?

I am not planning on bumping him off (just yet! ) - just interested as to whether we should also consider making wills here.

all the advice strongly suggests that one should have a portugese will )apart from any will you may have in existence in any other country)
I understand that the executor of your will back home would have to resolve any issues in relation to Portugese property also - so if your portugese assetts are not properly dealt with in a portugese will then that may delay the execution of any will at home - heard this can some times take up to 2 years
on the other hand if you have no other assetts outside of portugal your are still always strongly recommended to have two wills made one for your self and the other for himself
incidentally the portugese lawyer making our will is charging €200.00 for two witnesses ie witness expenses - that really sounds over the top

In regards to wills in the UK, from abroad and the validity of them please refer to 'Working Lunch ' yesterday. The programme can be downloaded and/ or watched on ipod bbc. It explains them in full detail.
This programme is a must for all sorts of information, weekdays on bbc2 12.30, as is 'It pays to watch' on channel 5 on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm. Both have newsletters etc that can be read/downloaded weekly.

if you own assets in Portugal (eg property ) you definitely need a Portuguese will . We made one a couple of years ago and paid 700 ish euros for the whole bit for the 2 of us .You need to bring a copy back to the UK for your lawyer here
