Fiscal representative

I know this has been discussed before but I cannot get my head round the nitty gritty of it. I currently pay 254 euros to my Fiscal Rep to inform me my IMI is due and then to pay it - my IMI is 191 euros. It irks that their fees are more than the actual IMI amount. What I cant get my head around is - does a Fiscal Representative have to be a 'Professional' person i.e lawyer or similar or can it be any agent e.g property manager, friend, etc. or can I have the demand sent to my apartment and visit in April and pay it myself. (The apartment is never let and I do not have any income or other matters in Portugal that would require tax management or representation of any other kind).

Yes Your representative can be anybody even a friend, However who ever represents you is liable for anydebt you owe to the state if you dont pay.

How would I go about changing my fiscal rep.

Go to the Finances witn your new Rep and inform them of who he is, he will have to show ID and his fiscal number also his address, then inform your old Fis. Rep that his services are no longer needed.
Simple.

I don't have a fiscal rep, don't rent my property out, do have the bill sent to my property direct and do pay it in person when I visit in April. Never had a problem.

The fiscal rep has to be some tax paying person or entity here. Maybe FAROL is registered as a tax resident as that is often the case even for non residents due to their initial registration form being incorrectly completed. The form is a little ambiguous. You might get a nice little Portuguese tax bill to sort out one day FAROL
