RESTAURANT FOR SPECIAL OCCASION

Post by agilder »

Hi there
I would welcome recommendations of somewhere special to book for my Mum's 50th birthday meal in June. There will be group of 6 of us who enjoy good food and wine and but prefer a non-stuffy atmosphere... a nice view/outdoor eating area would be preferable and plenty of fresh fish dishes to choose from. central carvoeiro would be good as within walking distance of our accommodation but would be willing to travel by taxi to surrounding area if it's worth it!!
any advice much appreciated....

thanks in advance

Maxims for the food and atmosphere, but not for the view!

If you want nice fresh fish, a stunning view and a non stuffy atmosphere then, at the risk of being shouted at, there is only one choice - Rei da Praia at Caneiros beach - book VERY early and ask for an outside table which will be superb in June

You could try Casa Velha do Pescador in Benagil, beautiful setting, outdoor dining, quaint and atmospheric, Lots of good fish but be careful of the fish by the kilo, ask how much before you commit as some have gone mad and ended up with a huge bill, be aware but don't be put off, it is a lovely restaurant.

Also Brasserie Marina at the road at the top of Benagil, lovely outdoor seating, good food and always a fish of the day option as well as the fish on the menu. Very good, I always go there for my birthdays when we are out.

Have a lovely meal where ever you choose and Happy Birthday to your Mum.

I agree Lesley - Velha do Pescador is wonderful for the view in the daytime and inside at night it is a virtual marine museum as well. Carla, the owner and most time waitress is great and informative. Wonderful chateaubriande for 2! :D

Its my birthday on the 4th June and I am going to Praia Grande at Ferragudo where Zea and Paulo made my birthday last year really special - they got me a cake and a bottle of bubbly too! Food is really good and they have lots of tables outside overlooking the large beach within the breakwater! Well worth a visit! :D Happy Birthday to your Mum too!!

My choice would be the same as Graham - Rei da Praia at Caneiros has a good selection of freshly caught fish and monster tiger prawns that they cook superbly. They also have a good wine selection. The waiters are a nice bunch and always good humoured. Wherever you go, hope you have a great time!

We were taken out to dinner last week, not to Elle&Ella, or any of the recognised posh nosh places, but to the restaurant at Colina Village.

A real surprise, nice decor. Cant fault the food. Very much "master chef" rather than restaurant hill. But really, really good.

Only critiscism??? The service was a little TOO attentive.

Perfect for that special birthhday, anniversary.....or seduction

PS Dont ask me what it cost.......we weren't paying

I've just been to a wedding lunch at Vimar, last place up the hill on the left. It's the second time I've been to a "party" there and both times I thought the food was very well presented and good The waiters got it just right replacing drinks when needed clearing away plates and always on hand when needed AND there were only two of them plus the owner! We went for lunch last year and it was also very good.

If you let most restuarants know it's a special occasion and want a ckae or something special possibly not on the menu most will be able to sort something out, as long as you give them at least 24 hours notice. if they don't choose another, there's plenty to choose from
