Departure Board Revisited

Post by tricky »

Maddi started this a few months back, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside. I'm going out on my first visit to CVO since joining the forum
and was looking forward to playing that game - you know the one, sitting in the bar/beach/restaurant wondering if the voice you can hear is
Biffa/Digger/Ktee/Ellie/Maddi/Gabrinus etc, It would be nice to know
if anybody is due to be there at the end of March till the middle of April,
or what Bar's they can usually be found in :)

We frequent many of Carvoeiro's fine establishments!

Imprevisto, Cheers, Carvoeiro bar, Smilers, Piu Grand Cafe, Bellissimo, Matabixo are a few.

As for restaurants, Cantinho, Frasers, Casa Algarvia, Ele e Ela, Via Italia..... :D

I spend most of my time ate RB, LSD, Anteak bar or Le Doce. Restaurants are Escondidinho, Mamma Mia, the chinese just up from the square, Bella Napoli or Sulmar on the road to Benagil

- Looks like Kteee and I split up Carvoeiro nicely between us :D

Tricky, I’m the Lee Marvin sound-alike: ‘I was born under a wanderin star’

And I’ll be on the lookout for an innocent young lady struggling to make sense of the Mail on Sunday lifestyle supplement

Much as I am happy about being out there at the same time at Mike, Chislehurst, is anyone else going to be there Whit half term (i.e. 29 May to 5 June) apart from the residents of course.

Following the success of our crimbo adventures we have already reserved the same villa for this year's festivities.

Can anyone advise me on purchasing flights for Dec 22/23ish for 10/12 days? Last year we flew from Gatwick with BA for £175 each (scheduled flight). Didn't mind the cost ('though would like cheaper!) but did mind the long trek from Lincoln to Gatwick.

Are there nearer airports flying out for those periods?

Hi Michael, East Midlands, Easyjet, flying every day this winter and also next summer. Can't see that being any different next winter, so wait until they announce the schedules around July I think. No flying on Xmas Eve then? :)

Hi Mike.

We might fly Christmas Eve but we'll make sure we get to the village in time to shop at Intermarche! :)

I have always tried to fly BA -fly the flag and all that, but have to say the service has fallen well wide of the mark recently. I am trying the Monarch service out of LGW next month, which at £149 return for two is pretty damn good value compared with the £380.00 BA want for the same dates. My problem is that I am tied to school holidays courtesy of four teenage daughters, and we all know that the airlines take advantage on price in the lollipop season.

In response to an earlier question re May I am in Cvo during Whit week.

Hi Gazza, we are flying Monarch Scheduled this year after some very good reports last year. Only problem is that the Wednesday flight is at 06.30 and getting up for that is not a pleasent thought. Saving a packet on the Thursday and weekend flights is though! Strolling into Smilers at about 10.00 is also another pleasent thought. Come to think of it 06.30 isn't so bad afterall! Let us know what you think, should be well up on the BA and especially Easyjet options. Mike,Chislehurst

Paid £135 return with BA for Whit week flights so still quite happy with that - sat to sat. Anyway shall see you there Gazza, any particular favourite hang outs? I will be with two teenagers, one the 15 year old boy you have suspected of stalking your 4 teenage daughters since the day you arrived :)

Following advice, I decided to fly Monarch for my annual Valentine's trip to CVO with my wife - they have just rung me today to say that due to poor bookings, the flight is CANCELED. I can go the day beofre or the day after if I like.

This makes me hopping mad and very reluctant to use Monarch again - our dates were very carefully selected to coincide with work commitments, parents-in-law's work commitments (they are looking after the kids) and several other factors.

I had decided that if Monarch were any good I would use them every time instead of BA, but if this is an indication of their reliability then I think that it is back to good old old BA for me.

Has anyone else had Monarch scheduled behave in this manner?
