Mate of mine made a bit of a mess on the hall carpet after he came in out of the rain and mud last Monday and went looking for the the hoover. Now they have been living in this very nice house for just over two years and he had to ring his wife to find out where she stores it!! He's not a bad bloke but you had to smile. :D

Sorry about that, it's off the subject. I wish the best of luck and common sense to both the moderators and hopefully we can progress the site to new heights in information and personal experiance of this village irrespective of the contents good or bad. It's coming up to the silly season now and lots of new visitors will be checking this site out hopefully with a view to visit. I'm not sure what the hit rate is at the moment but if you key "Carvoeiro" on any search site then up it pops. Let's be positive.

There was an incredibly poignant film about a female university professor with Alzheimers some years ago; her husband after returning from work went to the freezer to get ice for his scotch and found the dustpan and brush in there, baffled he stood there for several moments and then said "I don't know which one of us is worse, you who have forgotten where this lives or me for never having known".

I am lucky to be an adult woman in this day and age, I get an equal chance to have a fulfilling career outside of the home and a partner who grew up being taught that ironing, laundary, cooking, cleaning, hoovering. etc are shared tasks :)

Well, that went over like a lead balloon...

But I do Everything..Washing, cooking, picking up after myself..the whole nine yards...because I'm Single..I have to do it or it doesn't get done.

Married men, on the other hand, know they don't have to do that,

Because the wife will.

One of my favorite words is:

SENSUOUS
- sen·su·ous·ness noun

synonyms SENSUOUS, SENSUAL, LUXURIOUS, VOLUPTUOUS mean relating to or providing pleasure through gratification of the senses.

SENSUOUS implies gratification of the senses for the sake of aesthetic pleasure <the sensuous delights of great music>.
SENSUAL tends to imply the gratification of the senses or the indulgence of the physical appetites as ends in themselves <a life devoted to sensual pleasures>.
LUXURIOUS suggests the providing of or indulgence of sensuous pleasure inducing bodily ease and languor <a luxurious hotel>
. VOLUPTUOUS implies more strongly an abandonment especially to sensual pleasure <a voluptuous feast>.
That's how Single persons, such as myself, think of the word.

Married men think the word "Sensuous" in another way.....

"Honey, sensuous up..can you get me another beer?"

And as for the "Faster Horses" bit, it came from a Tom T. Hall song.....

He was an old-time cowboy,
don't you understand

His eyes were sharp as razor blades
his face was leather tan
His toes were pointed inward from a-hangin' on a horse
He was an old philosopher, of course

He was so thin I swear
you could have used him for a whip
He had to drink a beer
to keep his britches on his hips

I knew I had to ask him
about the mysteries of life
He spit between his boots and he replied

"It's faster horses, younger women, Older whiskey, and more money"

He smiled and all his teeth were covered with tobacco stains
He said,
"It don't do men no good to pray for peace and rain.
Peace and rain is just a way to say prosperity,
And buffalo chips is all it means to me."

I told him I was a poet,
I was lookin' for the truth
I do not care for horses, whiskey, women or the loot
I said I was a writer,
my soul was all on fire
He looked at me an' he said, "You are a liar."

"It's faster horses, younger women, Older whiskey, and more money"

Well, I was disillusioned, if I say the least
I grabbed him by the collar
and I jerked him to his feet
There was something cold and shiny layin' by my head

So I started to believe the things he said

Well, my poet days are over and I'm back to being me
As I enjoy the peace and comfort
of reality
If my boy ever asks me
what it is that I have learned
I think that I will readily affirm

"It's faster horses, younger women, Older whiskey, and more money"

I am a modern man.

I cook, clean, and iron. I work from home and have the time to do it. Sharen's got a 'proper' job and deserves a rest when she gets home in the evening. Most nights she comes home to her dinner almost ready. :)

Hi Gerry, my 'puter is giving me fits at the moment, but I'ed love to help out as best I can.

That song you refered to comes from the Deep South and long ago, so I'm not sure if your contact has access to it. The music up that way tends to be Bluegrass, White Gospel, and Country.

The latest lyrics you liked were from what is known as "Outlaw Country"...a group of songwriter/performers that came out of Nashville in the 70's. Wille Nelson was part of that crowd. I'll try to post some more.

Is that any help?

BTW, its Kentucky.
