Regulation

Post by CM »

Hi folks

A friend of mine will be moving to Carvoeiro 2010 to set up a snack bar (of a day) and summit a bit special of a night. Before everyone cracks on about how hard it is etc etc he is under no illusions and is in a lucky posistion that this venture is more about employment for his family than actually making money!

but...

Any ideas where to find information about the rules and regs of a startup, health & safety, insurance etc etc better to do the research now.

thanks in advance

Before we opened our shop we spoke to the owners of the shops around us, just to make sure we were doing the right things, and in the right order! The best thing to do is to get a good lawyer who deals with that type of business and can apply for all the necessary licences etc. Some lawyers deal specifically in that area. Might be worth speaking to the owners of other snack bars etc. to see what they would recommend.

Thanks Misty but are they likely to help the competition? What shop have you got?

Our shop sells Mosquito Canopies, insect repellants and bedroom accessories/gifts. Our neighbours are Style Furnishings and Algarve Laptops and both have been extremely helpful.

I don't really know anything about the catering/bar business and I am sure licences are much different, although we used a lawyer in Portimao who dealt with licences just to do the licence and that side of things. They may be able to help. They were very inexpensive too.

CM: ASAE is the Portuguese equivalent of the Health & Safety Executive or local hygiene inspectors and are a rather over zealous authority when it comes to inspecting catering and other commercial establishments. They have wide powers and your friends need to make sure they get very good advice on what is now required under the law.
