I like the idea of a raised crossing, also would make sure that the road markings and grids around the square remain white (I'm sure it's the paint they use) this is a big problem for visitors that do not know the area.
Subject to opinion I would allow music in the square 7 nights a week subject to rehersals and approval in the same way that performers in the Covent Garden piazza have to do to proove suitability. A couple of magicians wouldn't go amiss! Next would be the traffic, first, all delivery lorrys and vans to be banned after 10.30 unless passing through, this would exclude coaches and people carriers. Exclusion limit to be a half a mile around the square. All cars and vans that park and obstuct the road by "sticking out" to be considered on the road and fined.
Last but not least employ within the council at a very senior level a "red tape buster" which I understand is sorely needed. I don't think this is too much to ask!

So agree with you about the music --even if it was only a few nights a week(as on our first week in september)--it made such a difference --really enjoyed it! :)
Magicians eh? Perhaps you could give 'Paul Daniels' a call Mike--little man with big talent(and ego--so Im told!)---a very good idea--and the youngsters would love it too :)

I had always been rather impressed by Jamie, but now you have told me he is a fan of PD, I am completely disillusioned

If I ruled the world, ev'ry day would be the first day of spring,
Ev'ry heart would have new song to sing.
Ev'ry one would be as free as a bird,
Every voice would be a voice to be heard.
Ev'ry one would say the world was his friend,
There'd be happiness that no one could end.
There'd be sunshine in ev'ryone's sky
If the day ever dawned when I ruled the world.
