I have just read Carol's newsletter and am curious to know where Praia Grande is?

Praia Grande is in Ferragudo - as you approach Ferragudo from Sesmarias you turn left follow the road around to the left up the hill. Park your car and then walk down the steps on to the stunning Praia Grande :D

The restaurant on the right hand side as you go down the steps is great on a sunny afternoon for lunc.

Cheese to start, Dorada with chips and salad.

Nothing better.

And there's a play area on the beach just below the restaurant, great for parents who can relax & enjoy their meal & keep an eye on their children, lovely beach. :D

There is also a nice little beach bar actually on the beach that we like to take the kids too as they can sit and build sand castles etc whilst we enjoy a drink.
I would highly recommend this beach for families.

Praia Grande

The Praia Grande restaurant which overlooks the childrens play area is fabulous, we have been going there for 14 years. The beach itself is really safe as its within the breakwater, they have volleyball, pedalos, and its great to go exploring, lots of nooks and crannies to look in. Zea & Paulo are mine hosts at the Praia Grande restaurant, they are lovely and ever so friendly and the food is fantastic. The fish is wonderful, the grilled squid divine, their vegetables and potatoes taste so different somehow. (Maybe its just the fact that its by the sea and in the sun) - the Molatov for dessert is good too!! Its always our first call as soon as we have unpacked, down there for our first taste of the sea and a bottle of plan alto chilled of course! Roll on the 27th march. :D

You sell it well!
Can I just check do you turn left at the bottom of the hill just before climbing again into Ferragudo itself? You can see the sea at this point and an area of beach in front which looks very uninviting!! After turning left the road bends to the right and climbs the hill and you end up near the laundrette?
Or should I turn left sooner??

Yes, you turn left at the bottom of the hill, then left again - virtually doubling back on yourself - and the car park is at the end of the road

Just before you turn left, there is an orangey red villa type building on your left , as you turn left (to see your stretch of sand in front, there is a wood cabiny thing there, turn left up the hill (the orangey red villa type building will be on your left again but from the other side, go to the top of the hill and park where you can, in high season it an can get pretty busy so park where you can. They close on Wednesdays.
