Smilers

Post by tricky »

Don't suppose that Smilers have replaced their tacky red plastic chairs and tables for something a bit more upmarket which would enhance the square no end, for the new season, have they?

tacky, tasteless and disgusting, but ever so traditionally portuguese - just look at the shop in the park in Lagoa. I get the distinct impression, that most coffee shop owners seem to think they have to put plastic on their terraces so that their shop will be recognized.

They are also cheap and easy/quick to replace.

I am not sure that corner would be the same without the sea of "coca cola" red. :P

the tables and chairs may look tacky but they are free arent they? this is probably why so many cafes and bars "choose" to use them!

Sorry not a good enough argument Bubbles.
All the other bars manage to have decent chairs and tables and they are not in such a popular, prominent position.
I think that if they raised their game a bit they would get more custom.

Hi Craig
The smilers chair situation is a little rant I have each year :D
Yes you are right perhaps I should make my feelings known the next time I am in Carvoeiro, but at the end of the day it is their livelyhood and they know what image they want to project.
