Annual travel insurance
Annual travel insurance
Our previous insurers having discontinued a travel insurance, we are now looking for annual travel insurance.
The cheap offers seen in newspapers seem to be only for UK residents.
Has anyone experience of this sort of policy (either Europe only or worldwide) for non-residents?

We get ours with Norwich Union Direct. They aren't the cheapest but the cover seems better and when we wanted to extend it from Europe to cover South Africa, we just made one phone call and it was done.
This time next we we should just be landing at Faro (fingers crossed) so hope to see you and Carol some time during the week.

Hi Roy,
A couple of years ago my wife went to the algarve with some friends and to cut a long story short she became ill which entailed her having to stay in hospital for four days.her friends had to come home without her and I had to go over for a day or two and bring her back.
Her stay in the Algor hospital was four grand which was covered by production of her policy and a signature.no messing ,no fuss.
We arrived home on the Tues afternoon. At seven that evening a girl from "JUST COVER" our insurers, rang to explain how we were to claim.
They covered every penny i had spent from the time i left my house in Ireland till the time i arrived back at the door and Geri,s expenses from the time she rang the doctor to the time she walked in her own hall door.
The check for the full amount arrived the following monday. The cost for that single trip was at the time 15 euro and for the annual was about 42 euro.

Through a Google search I found quite a few companies that offer cover to EU residents. The problem I encountered was the medical screening needed if you have to declare something like controlled high blood pressure. This was driven by a computer programme which basically produces the answer that existing conditions will not be covered even at an additional cost. Annual cover for lost luggage etc and accidents is fine as far as it goes but not much use if you had the misfortune to suffer any medical incident which could be claimed to be caused by high blood pressure. I ruled out a trip to America for my 65th birthday because of the lack of cover.
If anyone has found an answer to this I would be pleased to hear of it.

I pay £227 for 12 months worldwide travel cover for myself and wife, both in our 70s. Maximum single trip 35 days. This includes winter sports although I am long past skiing!
As far as I am aware all companies will exclude pre-existing conditions of ill health.
If interested this cover can be obtained through Chesham Insurance Brokers on 01494 786176.
