Rental During Football Weeks

Can I ask what other owners are doing to protect themselves against the less attractive football supporters renting their villas / apartments during Euro 04? I have seen ideas ranging from agents asking for copies of passports of all members of teh party to massive increase in price and deposits.

It would be interesting to hear from some of the British agents as to how they are dealing with this problem.

Fortunately we already have rentals from families for June, but I would just have increased the security deposit for a booking from football supporters (from any country).

Sorry, meant to say we are not chargeing any different because of the football but will be sticking to six max.

Thank you for your reply. Are you making any further checks other to validate the family names as I have heard that some all male groups are booking in false names and booking flights independantly of the agents to get around disclosing their true identities?

I know these families are genuine for various reasons.

I suppose I am fortunate in being on-site too, to keep an eye on things!

I contacted my agent and it seems that he is not taking any extra precautions against letting to male only groups other than asking for names as is usual practice. To say I am not pleased is an understatement especially after seeing a news report yesterday in which a notorious football thug who has a large following and history of stirring up trouble, has been ordered to cancel his Portuguese holiday in June! How many more of these types have slipped through the net?

I have asked my agent to cancel all June bookings. Overkill? Maybe, but I value my property and am not prepared to trust an agents gut feel.

Get additional insurance for the duration of the football.
All licenced business in Portugal can arrange this during this period, as it is known as a forseen risk.
