BLUE ROCK rocks

Post by Ian Lennox »

After 10 years of buying indifferent meat from various places in cvo - Intermarche, the old butchers, the market etc., it's great to see the new butcher in town - BLUE ROCK.

We bought meat there several times during our Christmas/New Year visit and I have to say it is probably the best quality meat I have had from anywhere in years - even surpassing some of the meat I buy from my local independent butcher at home.

It's all very well we visitors popping in and buying a bit of this and that but it's going to have to be up to the residents of cvo to keep this great shop open (so we part-timers can get good meat on our short visits!).

It may be that his prices are a little higher than anywhere else but the great quality of the meat is well worth paying the extra.

Hopefully he will still be there when I next visit in September!

BUY BLUE ROCK!!!!

It would be interesting to see if he is supplying any of the local restaurants.

We've actually found this butcher's to be a bit hit & miss, we have ordered a variety of things across his range & some have been very good & others mediocre so just a learning process really. It is of course all a matter of taste, his produce is beautifully presented & he certainly puts the hours in.

I've been to him a number of times and every time it's been delicious. His butterfly lamb marinated in garlic, coriander and rosemary is gorgeous. I got a leg of lamb for Christmas eve and a turkey for Christmas day and both were great. I also got a shoulder of pork for New Year's day but didn't get to cook it because of a power cut, had chicken chow mein and chips from the Chinese instead!!! Had it the next day with lovely crunchy crackling, mmm mmm mmm.

We rate this place very highly (see my previous thread on the subject). He was doing very well when we left CVO in early December, and had received his first major restaurant contract. We will be back end of January, and look forward to checking his progress. Like many others, we want Blue Rock to succeed in Carvoeiro, and I have a feeling that it will.

I agree with blue. The sirloins I picked up there last week were mediocre to say that least. I hope it is due to the learning curve...
