Biffa For Mayor!

Post by EllenBowdery »

Well----if anyone has the enthusiasm and the interest of CVO at heart its got to be Biffa :)
Yes--I know Peters put himself forward for the position 'Mayor of Lagoa' and is highly recommendable---but seeing that Biffa has been a resident there for many years he would be a more likely candidate---unless of course Peter--youre willing to move permanently to Lagoa ?
How about it Biffa--Im sure youd give that old 'Junta da Freguesia' agood run for its money :?:
and of course youd have our ever grateful thanks for providing us with wonderful Christmas lights AND terrific firework displays at New Year for ever and ever :D :D :D
Happy New Year :!: Ellie

Ellie your confidence in me is much appreciated but ...... er um - I tried this 2 years ago when I ran as a PSD candidate under Sr. Amarals administration. We had the embarrassment of getting beaten by the PS after 12 years in office.

I think I might be a jinx!

I am gonna ask about the lack of fireworks though!

Well--at least you had a go Biffa--so well done for that!
Ive just been talking to my son about this and he is intrigued by the local politics there---he wants to know is the PSD --Social Democrats party? and also whats the P.S?
We never got to know anything about local politics when living there---the nearest I got to it was a run-in with the camara!
Sons thinking of maybe trying to get some teaching work there----and I tell him he ought to learn more about local goings on as its been some time --over ten years since living there!
hope you dont mind me asking questions? and good luck with enquiries about fireworks! We were there for new year 2 years ago --and there wasnt any then --remember feeling very disappointed --but maybe we were in wrong place? Dont remember anything happening at all that year(when they went over to the Euro!)--in CVO that is!

Hi Ellen,
I'm not a resident, just a very frequent visitor of CVO. This town and it's surroundings, the residents and the local Poruguese people have struck me since a few years. I like the place very much and realy would like to move to it.
As you might recognize from my surname there are some portuguese roots! When you change the name Belinfante into Bel-infante it'll become clear.
The Belinfante family originates from Portugal; they where jews who were thrown out from Portugal about 1659.
Maybe that's the connection and my love to Portugal and specific to the Algarve and CVO.

At the moment it's impossible for me to move to CVO (although I would go even better yesterday than today!)
My wife and I have three children: 1 boy (almost 20 and in his last year at college; and he wants to go on) and 1 boy & girl (twins almost 17 who are also still studying) So that is the reason why I cann't come down to CVO permanently at the moment.

I have been in municipal politics for a long time (already for 21 years) so I have some experience and I think it would be a good thing if someone like me (as an outsider with an other view on things and from another kind of experience) could have an opportunity to run a town like Lagoa. I think it would benefit the city and all the residents (Portuguese and foreigners).

Maybe there will be a competition between Biffa (from whom I understand that he lives already for a long time in CVO) and me, but I would like to take the challenge!

So, if someone can advise me how to run for Mayor in Lagoa I would be very thankfull. (maybe I'll come over a.s.a.p)

Greetings,
Peter (Pedro Bel-infante)
(o nuovo Presidente da Câmara do Lagoa and first of all from CVO)

interestly there are foreign mayors in spain..i heard of one town where there are 10000 norwegians who have a norwegian mayor..however take care, under the veneeer of charm the portuguese are quite nationalistic.

like all things in politics, its be able to battle against an entrenched system that here is very corrupt and lazy and little bits of paper mad

perhaps biffa and you could run on joint ticket

your ring the bells and he biffs em

its the Bella and Biffa Show...................

Hi Peter!
That was so interesting to read about your family background----and liked reading Guests posting too--all very informative----Id really love to see that--you& Biffa running jointly --great duo 'Bel& Biffa'!!
I have a great love for my old home Lagao and nothing would please me better than to see you fellas taking charge there and injecting some life into the place. It was once very lively even during the winter months--Im sure a bit of 'bell ringing' and 'Biffing' wouldnt go amiss :D
That was very interesting what Guest wrote about the Spanish town with thousands of Norwegian residents having a Norwegian mayor! So it can happen!
The nearest we have here in UK is a German woman as labour MP--I love to see this and it certainly redresses the balance of an almost wholly Scottish cabinet!
But I fear Guest could be right about the Portuguese nationalistic streak-- we can but hope :!:

“They” are more than [quote guest] “quite nationalistic”, according to Portuguese friends of mine, not even a native of Lisbon would get a top job in Algarve. They like to keep it in the family, but I’m sure B&B know what they’re up against. Good luck.

Ah but Guest, this is the continent not the US or the UK for that matter, unless any irregularities are financial the southern europeans EXPECT their political candidates to have some sexual intrigue. They should at least have a mistress and if you really want to attain a position of power there should also be a couple of porn vts out there somewhere.

Europeans don't vote for people with known past financial irregularities but we do then expect any number of past and present fraudulent activities to be unearthered during their time of office.

I agree with Maddi, unless Biffa and Peter have several skeletons in the cupboard they have no chance of winning the election, so come on boys
give us some amunition!

Does this mean the members of CVO forum will have to have fund-raising rally's around the town, with lots of flag waving and stirring speaches!
It will be hard on tour - but I'm up for it :D
