Have you thought of asking if the rental company will accept your credit card number?

WE transfered money by direct deposit from our bank to the property manager's bank and the banks charged equiv. of 18 pounds on both ends! I voluntered to send a certified cheque to him for the balance - he said just pay me when you get here. But I have to pay for the property manager's bank fee!

If you use paypal the person receiving the money gets levied a charge of up to 3.4% so maybe not a good idea if it is passed onto you then.
Its ok for the big operators but not for villa owners
