Thanks Carol for another interesting read - just a bit mean flaunting those picture of people in shorts and T shirts to us poor souls stuck in the UK!

Wonderful and informative newsletter, Carol! Love to here about the new meat market and handbag shop. I am especially looking forward to your tales of Dubai. A good friend of ours lives there. He is a Canadian and is a pilot for Emirates Airline. He owns a condo unit near us and will be spending Christmas and New Years with him. Hoping to visit him over there sometime as it sounds like an interesting place.

Just read your Dec. newsletter Carol and enjoyed it thank-you :)

I mean't to say, on reading the November letter I was drawn to Patrick Swift's name.
When we lived there, I opened a tiny secondhand bookshop in Silves. Of course I had to buy in books. In a large collection, which had belonged to an old soldier( at Boliqueime) I found the book 'Algarve' by David Wright and Patrick Swift (Its signed by Patrick, Porches Jan '78.)
It s great little book (well, medium-sized :) ),published in '65 and tells of those times, with whole chapter on Carvoeiro. Some super pictures and drawings too:
a fish auction on Carvoeiro beach
grape treading in Lagoa
and a pic of 'rice girls' ( we were told, by chap in Algarve, that there had been rice fields on outskirts of Lagoa).
An interesting read :)

Swift sounded a very interesting, talented man, with his painting & writing.

Look forward to your tales of Dubai
