bore holes now drying up
Intersting questions, Guest. So you have your Bars and restaurants ..why Oh Why cant we put manufacturing and R & D in Portugal.....why do you only know of Tourists....
Catering to tourists has a relativly low initial investestment and, up to a point, very little upgrades of the existing infarastructure..why do you only know of Tourists..
An added benifit is that the local workforce requires only a basic education.
R & D, on the other hand requires a highly educated local work force.
(unless, of course, they import thier workers from the outside, and even then there will be strains on local infrarastructure)
Manufacturing, however, also requires an educated work force (less than R&D, but more than bars and restaurants), and will put a heavy load on the infrarastructure.
(after all, you have to transport all the raw materials into the factory....and transport the finished product out)
Does Portugal have an infrarastructure, or an educated work force, in place that can deal with those problems.....much less a Government that would facilitate it in the first place?
It seems the only thing Portugal is good for, from an investment point of view, is golf courses and villas.
Does seem that way doesn't it.he Portuguese couldnt even process a piece of paper...in a logical way.......IT also am back in UK.....wanted to live and invest in Portugal.....tried and gave up..went back to UK in 2003........I now employ over 100 people ...Portugal lost out........

Visited the Mitsubishi Canter (now FUSO) factory between Lisbon and
Porto last October They produce around 12 trucks aday All components are shipped in from Japan and the trucks are only assembled (not built from scratch) The production line is very dated around about 50 years out of date. They where fitting road springs with one man on a sledge hammer and another man bending his back into a crowbar around 2metres long. Nothing like the modern MercedesTruck factory that I visited over 20 years ago. (if the portugese had seen that, they would think they where on the starship enterprise)
But the Canter factory was very picturesque (citrus and palm trees)
(It rained boy did it rain)

No Guest you are not correct in my opinion.....many inward investors of non ( Read Miniscule) polluting industry have tried to invest millions here in the South.they have mainly left in disgust after facing all the Red tape and labour laws....I myself run a business..I was to expand ..I intended to invest a lot more money...and employ at least 30 people.....I spent over 18 months fighting the local beaurocracy.......I moved production to the new eastern Block....Tax holiday and Welcome arms open.....(Just like I did in China 30 years ago) ..I now produce there and gave up here.......yes you can still come and get a nice sun tan..The 30 people I was to employ ??..Most still have either no job or are on the breadline.......Government have to pay social security ...Money.
But yes .Tourism is very important.....there is nothing else......and never will be as long as people like you care of nothing else but your wish of a so called non polluted environment....whats better...a little industrial smoke or the population really on the breadline...but you from ..?? Skegness ??---can come here and Breath the Air...???

The last bloke.
Would you mind giving it a rest. Nobody has a clue who you are except that you always post the same thing. Doesn't matter what the question is. The answer is always you bleating on about how awful things are in Portugal and how wonderful they are in Bulgaria/China/Mars or whereever people are willing to work for 2p a year to make whatever poisonous crap you produce (made the last bit up). Labour laws eh? Like pay and not dying at work. Must make it very tricky for you.
Any road up, I for one am tired of reading the same old post, so why don't you just forget about your woes, think how much money the Bulgarians/Chinese/Martians are making for you and think of something else to say.
