Swimming pools

We are at the stage now of deciding whether to have a 'drop in' fibreglass pool or a 'built in' concrete one. Can anyone help, we know about the pitfalls of fading colour on the fibre glass, but how long do the tiles last on the concrete pools, also can anyone tell us if the mosiac tiles need more maintainance than the plain ones, any information gladely recieved Many thanks Liz

well I have heard of many people with concrete pools with leaks etc tiles falling off etc are now have them fibreglassed inside to stop the problems.

I clean for someone a fibreglass pool..it is the easiest pool to look after I have had to do.

given the lower cost and the quickness of installation (dont forget the licence however ) I would go for fibreglass

We're hoping to put a pool in over the next year and after some investigation have decided on fibreglass. It is fast to install and the insulation should help reduce the heating bills.

Hi Lizzie H...have a look at the company pebble pools based in LAgos?.

We have been advised Fibre glas pools dont last long....

Thanks for all your replies, we need to do some sreious thimking about which pool to install. as for licence we live near to Messines and so come under Silves Camara and they are taking ages. Lizzie

we also come under Silves Camara and have only just started our pool this week after nearly a year waiting for licence. we also looked at pebble pools and they do come up with some nice designes but decided to go elsewhere, we are having a tiled one. Hope to be swimming in it very very soon fingers crossed. GOOD LUCK with your licence. but you do have to keep on the case.

If it can take a year to obtain a licence we should be applying now. How much detail do you need for the application, and is it best to employ someone to make the application for you. We speak little Portuguese (as yet). Will be over on Saturday, so could start the ball rolling.

Our pool was built by Pebble Pools 3 years ago. It took around 5 months and constant chasing by our agents in Portugal to get the licence through but Pebble did the application on our behalf so we didn't have to do any of the paperwork ourselves. The pool itself was built in 3 weeks - it helps to have a deadline of clients coming into the property - but not good for the nerves when you don't know if the licence will come through in time !

Hi

we got our coloured glass mozaic tiles for our pool from the tile shop in Lago near the Fatacil on the corner by the traffic lights / roundabout. Sorry cant remember the name but they sell some great tiles.

We have just come back from our very first swim in it and the water and weather was gorgeous.

I'll be out there next week so I'll take a look. Our 'pool man' gets his mozaics imported from a company in northern Spain [www.ezarri.com]. It also seems that there are quite a few in the UK. Delivery for 1/2 ton is about £200 from the UK to Faro so it might be an option to import (export - depends where you're sitting!).
